    Default jig question .

For those that single pole ,Do you normally use 1/16 0r 1/8 oz. jigs ? After down sizing to 1/32 jig heads in state lakes and 1/64 at Bay springs I have a feeling If wind allows the 1/16 might be the ticket .

Depends on situation. How deep I'm fishing and if around structure. Wind, etc. I personally think people make too much about it in regards if the FISH actually care. I don't think they do that much. I used to use 1/2 ounce fishing deep around timber at Sardis. Just look at the size shad those dudes eat. During the spawn fishing 1-3 feet, it kind of goes both ways. Don't need a heavy jig to get deeper but then again sometimes a heavier jig gets it down thru the vines and stuff. If fishing around cypress tries w/o vines, etc. again, lighter works for me. And sometimes during hot summer around those dead timber, it helps to use something really light to float down like fly jigs but that only works w/o wind in my opinion.

I think the main thing is whatever the weight and conditions you need to maintain the feel of the jig. If you use to light weight then you will lose it especially in heavier winds. Typically I use 1/16 oz jigs 95 percent of the time.

I/16 for me as well. I will vary a little depending on conditions but will always revert back to a 1/16.

1/16 is my go to.... I swap to 1/8 at times when wading thicker cover or when the wind picks up

1/8 oz 95% of the time with at least a 2” plastic on it.

I don’t own anything smaller than 1/8. Except for a couple of gnats I bought because they looked good.

I don’t use anything larger than a 1/16, and go to 1/32 as long as I can feel it. Tough bite, I’ll always downsize to the 1/32. I prefer 4lb mono as well, and having thinking of going to braid.
