    Default Ross Barnett Reservoir Spawn

I went out today at main harbor and couldn’t catch a bite, only managed a few males in about 5ft of water that had their tuxedos on. But I went out the last weekend of March before the rain and Easter snap and wore them out in a small cove. I caught mainly males with their tuxedo on in 2-3ft of water and one big female full of eggs that was staging in deeper water. Have these fished spawned out or did the rain and Easter snap knock them off? This is my first year having a boat so I’m fishing spots in the Rez I’ve never fished before and I’m trying to understand their behavior better. Surface temp was 68 degrees in that cove I fished at the end of March

I personally don't think it has happened yet. I have a friend that fishes The Bay and he says most everything he is catching has spawned out...I am fishing upriver and 90% still have eggs. I am also not catching many black males...yet I hope. There are tons of fish still deep as well..I know many stay there but the numbers in that shallows are just not what they typically are. I believe this week should kick them in high gear with the night time temps in the 50's

Many people rush the end of the spawn every year. Be patient.

    It is far from over...
Fish still loaded with eggs in many parts of the REZ...
Look for the old Carolina Skiff
Loaded down with too much gear...
    LINES IN!
