    Default Rojoguio Questions

    Rojoguio, this is Silverroach
I was noticing your home Lake was East Pearl River.
That area is my old stomping ground or should I say waters.
But I mainly was fishing over around Henleyfield MS. On La. MS. Line close to Bogalusa La. on the Pearl.
My question is has that area rebounded from a few years back fish kill that the paper mill caused? Thought you might know.
My home was Purvis MS. but have been in South Alabama area for 20 plus years. These guys don’t have crappie like we do back home. I still purchase MS. fishing licenses and go over that way some.
I am also new to Crappie.com so still learning how to use site so hope I did this right.

Being a northerner I have no clue about your waters but would like to welcome you to the site.

Thanks for the welcome. I joined a few months ago to find help in the Alabama delta region. It is where my job moved me to back in the 90’s. But I have started going to other adjoining states to gather wisdom and knowledge something we can never get enough of. My home fishing area was in South Mississippi before I moved and is where I saw a post from Rojoguio where he mentioned East Pearl River and was reaching out to him. I have enjoyed being on the site and learning of the wisdom of crappie fisherman. I have done it all my life and now 60 years of age. Matter a fact only a couple of weeks ago while fishing learned another new trick when those elusive crappie did not seem to be biting anyone’s. But for me I came home with a nice mess of fish.

Just found your post. The East Pearl has been fine, the fish kill didn't effect The Wastehouse, Middle Rivers, Upper or Lower Black, Stennis, or any of the East Pearl Oxbows. When it happened the water had to get over 9ft or so in the West Pearl before communicating through the woods to the East Pearl. If it happened now it would be bad. The diversion is such a failure, not correcting has created a huge erosion problem in the swamp. The politicians may talk about it but have done nothing to fix it. Well permanent damage has happened so 7ft water in the West Pearl and it's running through the woods to the East Pearl. Any high water in the West Pearl effects everyone now.

Rojoguio, I remember years ago early 80’s when the area over around Henleyfield MS. the lakes had very little flow through them unless the river got way up. Fishing was very good. Then they made some changes and now the water stays for the most part too low with a lot of current in most place where I use to fish. Some places you can’t even get too. Of course they came in and made the management area and built such a nice road everyone goes in that area now. As back then you had to be brave and hope you didn’t get much rain while you were fishing or you might have a few days of fishing. But we have progress to deal with and sometimes it’s a bad thing and sometimes it’s a good thing. But thanks for the info and if you ever need anything around the Alabama delta look me up over in the Alabama forum. But unless you want to catch smaller crappie stay in Mississippi. That’s why I go back home to catch the slabs. As where I live if you get at 2 pounder that’s what they call a slab. Of course I go north to Millers Ferry and do pretty well at certain times.
