    Default Night Fishing for Crappie

Not sure if this has been discussed before but I’ve been doing some researching and from what I’ve been reading it can be just as good as day fishing. I’ve got a couple of good submersible green lights on the way and gonna dive on in ESPECIALLY during this summer. I figure without all the boat traffic and less wind that it should be pretty decent.
What is yalls experience? Can it be just as good during the day? Any tips or suggestions??

I prefer getting a good night's rest and being up a couple of hours before sunrise and setup fishing before first light. Can avoid the mid day heat as well as the pleasure boating crowd. I bet it could be successful if it's done right. My only issue would be the bugs. These dang gnats have been bad enough the last few years with the high water during the day, I couldn't imagine at night with lights attracting them and mosquitoes from far and wide.

It has been discussed a few times since I been on the board, no real definite authorities on the subject I've seen on the MS board. Hopefully some with experience will chime in soon. I think it's a good idea in theory and wish you good luck. Also, check out a few surrounding states on the site. I think Alabama and Georgia have a good many nighttime crappie fishermen.

We used to go out chasing cats on Grenada at night and the bugs are absolutely terrible! As soon as you turned a light on they were on you! Never tried for crappie though I guess if you used the green lights that supposedly don’t attract bugs you would be alright

before I started longlining that was all I did was fish the dark side !!! nightstalking is very productive the trick to the bugs is do not what so ever turn on a white light the bugs will hone in on you in a second , use a amble led lite inside the boat for lite bugs will not attract also I used blue leds on the side of my boat and used vicious 10lb hi-vis line the blue led lites would make the line look as big as your finger real easy to see a bite !!!! I painted the rod tip flat white they also would be real easy to see as well !!!! MOST IMPORTANT THING GET YOU A THERMACELL Mosquito Repeller !!! YOU THANK ME LATER FOR THAT ONE !!! hope this was helpful !!!
here is a EXCELLENT read on Nightstalking !!!!

long story warning! Used to fish Toledo bend for green trout in the 70s. One morn when the marina in Sammy gill park opened I went in for a honey bun and a spinnerbait. Couple of guys were buying ice. I asked "you guys haven't caught 'em already" ? One guy said "We fished last night under the lanterns". I asked "Did you do any good?" "We caught 165." Of course I asked "Was there any size to 'em?" "Well, you can come see what you think of them." Went out on the dock and they had 2 coolers crammed full of 2 pound crappie. They had a houseboat moored on a bend in the creek. Water came up from the channel to a 4 foot wide ledge at 17 feet Up from that it turned into a 14 ft flat. We set up just down the river about 100 yards in a similar spot. Only got 48 that night but my buddy froze out about 10:30. Went back several times after that but didn't worry about the bass as much from then on.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

Underwater green lights do not attract bugs. Have 2 on pier. Can be fantastic at times. Lot of the time they like in daylight will hide in a shadow(post) other times they on very outside edge of light. They attract Shad and minnows
