Thread: Side by side Fishing

Left side because I am one of those that were fortunate enough to be born left handed.

Spider rigging or pushing out the front I sit on the left. Was more convenient for a partner of mine who can't grab minnows with his right hand due to arthritis. And really it doesn't matter much. Pulling I sit on the right cause when faced backwards looking at the stern I have to deal with the console to get to the back or middle of the boat. It's more courtesy to me for the guests preference overall. I'm familiar with my boat and gear and can adjust either way.

Funny thing that I've noticed, no matter which side I'm on the guest always catches more fish. I try to explain I've got buttons to push on a remote and such to justify my shortcomings. Nobody bought that excuse yet

To answer the original posters question.....There is no wrong way or right way....It all comes down to personal preference.

I am right handed and I guess right footed too. I prefer to sit on left side

From my experience, that’s because we’re doing the most work to make it more convienent and enjoyable for our guest. Appreciate the feedback.

I drive from the right, therefore I fish from the right. I run a ultrex i-Pilot. The reason is because the trolling motor is mounted on the left and my depth finder is mounted left of center. Trolling motor deployed is right of the center line. I run my inside rod 1 inch from trolling motor head. This gives a bit more rod spread for the person on the left. I run my outside rods at 90*. This helps if you have an inexperienced person in the boat too. Pulling cranks I also sit on the right. (On deck behind console). I have a depth finder in the console and one mounted on the deck in front of the big motor. That way I can use both depth finders just by turning my head.

Here's my rational for why when spider rigging and live scoping I set on the right side. I run a terrova so it doesn't matter regarding the trolling motor but I also use a Cumberland crappie double seat because I'm unable to put base plates were they would need to be. So the storage area that I have to access most frequently is on the right side in front of the console. Because of the double seat, to access the storage area I have to swivel the seat base forward or backwards to get it off of the lid. I can do this and not bother my guest asking them to move all the time so I can get into my storage area. Also my live scope transducer is not on the trolling motor but instead on a separate setup that I can rotate 360 located on the right side of the boat and I'm right handed. Trolling cranks it doesn't really matter other than I can rotate my live scope towards the back of the boat and watch my crankbaits. This info might give you a different perspective on where you may want to sit.
