    Default Barnett surprise

Had a couple of hours to try and catch a few so i went to 43 and decided to try down the lake in a popular spot. Pretty afternoon with little breeze. Only managed a few crappie, but I caught two shad in the mouth. Never seen or done that before. They were as big a large bluegill. THey stink.. Anybody else every caught one like this

From pictures on google it looks most like a gizzard shad. He was 6 to 8 inches or so. I snagged one in Eagle lake that was as big as a keeper 10in crappie but never caught one in rez, much less 2.

Skipjacks can sell for $1 apiece or more. Tournament catfishermen love them as cut bait or whole for the smaller ones. They will bite a jig and most of the time here they are caught below the dams casting multi-jig rigs in swift water. (before we got hammered by Asian carp.)

Gizzard Shad. like you said. They grow big, up to 12 inches or more around here. I never caught a biter, but when snagging the spillways would get two on every cast or pull. Stink is not the proper word for those critters, and the scales and slime setup like concrete on a rod or reel, gloves etc. I would pay $20 not to smell one and fish with shiners
