Bluesraider, you have pushed with Southern Crappie rods? the reason i ask is, I started with 12,13,14 ht star collapsible rods. when rigging my boat i found a set of wally marshall rods for sale and my new friend bought them, as i was spending extra money on boat at the time. So i later found a set of southern crappie 143T ( 2oz rated) for sale. we went pulling crankbaits one day and had all 3 rods together the WM were alot heavier in weight and backbone than the other 2. he pushed for a bit just playing with one of the WM but based on stiffness i would never think the SCR would handle pushing? we rigged the WM with 2 or 3oz of weight with 3ft leader to crankbait. Which SCR did you use and how did you rig for pushing. I have been thinking about selling the SCR and tryign another brand if i push more.

We switched over this weekend mostly just as a matter of preference. Water temp read 80° when we started and went up to 86° by time we were done and at the depth we caught fish we would have had a hard time pulling cranks.

What depth was that an why would it have been a problem pulling cranks?

8-15’. Most were around 12’. I haven’t pulled water that shallow. I guess it’s not a problem but I just haven’t done it.

Usually switch when it’s cool enough to easily keep shiners alive. Switched this weekend because it doesn’t look like summer will end and I don’t really care to fish cranks.

Sorry I am just seeing this.....yes I pushed with the 143T's rigged with 2 and 3 oz ScottV weights and a 3 ft leader to the crank. I have a post on here somewhere with a pic of them. I will see if I can find it.

Water temp was 85 to 89 degrees at Sardis today. I switched to minnows about two weeks ago when the bite on cranks slowed down for me. I haven't seen any evidence that it's the water temp that causes fish to switch their preference from cranks to minnows.
