Like John said everything is not as easy as it looks from the outside. Liability insurance costs equipment costs upkeep of equipment not to mention them working overtime placing fish habitat so as to have special places to fish when things go south. Then there is the fish themselves just when you think they are biting they will take lockjaw. This is not even mentioning bad weather days and days people don't show up after booking a trip. I learned a long time ago just because a person made a job look easy doesn't mean it is. just my 2cents worth and no I am or even been a guide but I do a lot of fishing I have learned to love it where I am catching or not
Be safe and good luck fishing

I am not aiming this at any one particular person, but I can no longer hold my tongue on this subject. First off the Corp lakes are federal property and are paid for and maintained by the American taxpayers dollars and as such are regulated by the federal government. It is illegal for anyone to profit from property owned by the federal government except the ones granted specific permission from the government. Say what you want, but when a guide charges their customers to guide them on federal waters that is a violation of federal law and I cannot understand why the law isn't enforced. I realize the guide's customers add money to the local economy, but it is still in violation of the law. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, that wasn't my intent.

Recently me and my wife made a trip from Oklahoma to Mississippi to be able to fish the famous waters you all have there. There was no way I could justify dragging my boat that far with my truck (which has almost 300,000 miles on it). Compared to the cost of a guide it was a no brainier. Also with hiring a guide we did not have to take the extra time to try and figure out what the pattern was gonna be and where to find them especially since we were only gonna be there for 3 days. Believe me I am not someone who has the money to just throw around and it took a good year of saving to make this trip possible but I believe the cost of the guide was worth every penny of it! Not only was it cheaper to do but it also made our vacation way more enjoyable to not have to worry about finding fish and a pattern or having to deal with all the hassles of the boat and equipment. I believe it is all a matter of opinion though but I have no problem paying a guy for his time, knowledge, and use of all his equipment. As far as legality goes I do not see how it would be illegal for a guy to charge for his time, knowledge and equipment. If they were charging by the number of fish they catch that would be different. If a guy feels like it's not worth it to hire a guide don't hire one, but to those of us that it's worth it to for the maybe a once in a lifetime experience please don't ruin it for us.

If a guide isn't isn't making money then he cannot stay in business. The amount he needs to make it worth is time is his business... I'm glad there are some who can enjoy taking others out, and make enough to sustain that...

I have never Hired a Guide but have several friends that are --- Most Guides do not have Clients in their Boat 5 or 6 days a week.. Many are booked for 1/2 day trips and the guides also fish to keep up with changing conditions on their waters when someone is in the Boat with them ... The way I see it at best theirs is a Part time job that is Exhausting Physically... One fellow wants Stripers , Another Monster Catfish, Crappie, Bass .... Could you do the job under those conditions ???

A guide license in AR costs $25 a year—-hardly a big revenue producer. We’re policed and regulated to death. Nothing wrong with a little free enterprise.

Also if a guide gets a ticket while guiding he loses his guide license in most states.

A friend told me about this thread, he fishes with me often and knows how I feel on the subject......
No one guides for free, there is CLEARLY money to be made, because there are so MANY DOING IT.
Your fishing a Corp lake that is maintained for flood control and RECREATION..... If you want to operate a BUSINESS there are, or should be rules/fees/ insurance that is required.......
Lastly, what folks do usually doesn’t bother me until it AFFECTS ME....thanks to the internet, the big four are covered up with guides, and yes it’s an ADDITIONAL BURDEN to all recreational fishermen....
Additionally this website has been used by some....or ONE to create business for himself......

I’m done, thinking of going fishing Guides

Sounds like you need to hire a guide and learn how to fish. Maybe you could learn some new tactics so you wouldn’t be so burdened.
