Recently me and my wife made a trip from Oklahoma to Mississippi to be able to fish the famous waters you all have there. There was no way I could justify dragging my boat that far with my truck (which has almost 300,000 miles on it). Compared to the cost of a guide it was a no brainier. Also with hiring a guide we did not have to take the extra time to try and figure out what the pattern was gonna be and where to find them especially since we were only gonna be there for 3 days. Believe me I am not someone who has the money to just throw around and it took a good year of saving to make this trip possible but I believe the cost of the guide was worth every penny of it! Not only was it cheaper to do but it also made our vacation way more enjoyable to not have to worry about finding fish and a pattern or having to deal with all the hassles of the boat and equipment. I believe it is all a matter of opinion though but I have no problem paying a guy for his time, knowledge, and use of all his equipment. As far as legality goes I do not see how it would be illegal for a guy to charge for his time, knowledge and equipment. If they were charging by the number of fish they catch that would be different. If a guy feels like it's not worth it to hire a guide don't hire one, but to those of us that it's worth it to for the maybe a once in a lifetime experience please don't ruin it for us.
