Default Casting cranks with a spinning rod

I’m curious if any of you have tried casting crank baits with a spinning rod with say 4 or 6 lb line?

I do it a lot. I use mostly line counters but on a set-up I'll have two or more cast out on the spinning rods. I will cast like long lining give them a long cast.

The line strength wasnt my concern as i am really just curious if, in your part of the world, you folks have so many fish that casting crank baits is effective. Over my way we cast twist tail grubs and road runner/beetle spins but ive thought about getting some cranks.

I cast them out and set them in rod holders and let the boat do the retrieving. I used to cast crankbaits for for green carp and yes it was effective and a spinning rod and reel will do. Not much casting and retrieving done on our lakes for crappie, unless I'm just not in the loop. One pole fishing is usually done with single baits (jigs mostly) vertical fishing. I'm sure you could catch a few on a high numbers lakes like Enid or Sardis, but sounds like to much werk to me

Snubby - you’ve addressed several topics here. Not sure i solicited each one but the more the merrier! I’ll rehash...

    1. You troll crank baits with a boat.

    2. Crank baits work for bass fishin.

    3. Single pole fishing is done with jigs.

You did broadly weigh in on the topic of casting lures but my inquiry was meant to generate a specific response for casting crank baits. Thus far i suppose the lack of response is due to a lack of the practice in general of casting crank baits for crappie. And that was my interest. Thanks for your response!

Don't cast cranks but do cast small spinner baits during the spawn some . A 1/16 or 1/8 jig with an ''Arkie" spinner will work .During my Bass days we caught a few but like Snubby says you can wear out a shoulder and two reels trying to catch fish over 12 inches here in North Mississippi . Easier to pull them for sure . Bass rods work fine .

I've done it and it works. I've tried 100 200 300 bandits. Caught them shallow and deep 2-10' deep. I use 8' rod with a spin cast with 12 lb line. You will catch crappie bass catfish. Cranks ain't cheap and you will lose plenty with 4-6 lb line.

I cast cranks as much as troll them. And yes most always on spinning gear with 10 lb braid and a leader. I like a light to med. light rod for crappie, as I usually use smaller crankbaits.

I thought you was tslking about trolling. I do not just cast with spinning reel.
