    Default New fishing area

Hello and thank you for the acceptance to the forums. I am a avid crappie fisherman and have fished all across the US for crappie. One place I have noticed is here In Mississippi the crappie have a lot different pattern.

Today I am fishing all new water as I normally stick to. Washington,Sardis, Enid, Grenada, and Ross. I am venturing out to the east part of the state and hitting up the river in Columbus, and a few lakes this next few days. Any and all info on this side of the state would be wonderful.

Again thanks for having me here and look forward to posting pics of my catch and the fishing reports.

It’s customary for new board members to post their coords when reporting their catch.

Welcome. The TenTom is different than anywhere else you have probably fished. The water level and current fluctuates greatly. Getting in and out of lakes and sloughs from the main channel can be down right hazardous to a newbie. Quality fish are there but you are gonna have to put in your time to find them. Right now they are in full blown spawn mode and single poling shallow grass and wood cover will produce. I mostly spider rig but this is one of the few times I put that away for a jig pole or an ultralight. Right now the water is on a steady fall from the recent rains. As soon as it levels out some I suspect the spawners will be hot and heavy again.

Thank you Sr. I went out with a guy that knows the Tentom very well and fish’s for catfish all the time there he’s never been crappie fishing but we decided to change directions and go that way just to see. No luck and I honestly found out rivers is not my fav thing to fish so I am sticking to lakes for crappie and rivers for cats

It just takes time to learn how to fish a river. Many variables to consider all at once. I am convinced once you can consistently catch crappie on a river system you can catch them anywhere. Give it another try sometime.

I will be back on the river trying it again soon I don’t like to be defeated in a fishing spot so with that said it’s on the list again to hit
