Default change in Spyderlok rod holder design?

I just ordered a seat, base and holder combo from Grizzly Jig. Little confused as the model of rod holder i received is different than the picture i viewed. Main different, the contacts between rod holder itself and the bar are both plastic. There is a spring loaded in between which i like to assist with adjustments and all but wondering if the teeth will have issue later since molded plastic vs metal on metal. Another different is the base pole. It is not round, more "pill shaped" and the only adjustment is a twist knob vs the picture showed a metal tension band with a separate "push" button that you push in to move to different set heights. I guess the knob does provide more flexibility on height vs the set pre-drilled holes for the push button.

My question- what did i just buy? A brand new version or some old inventory? Even the Millennium website has a picture of the other one on it now.

Just checking here before i call GrizzlyJig or Millennium. Thanks
    SM

The pole shape is brand new, just came out with it a few weeks ago. They said it was to help eliminate the side to side twist . Not sure how long ago they went to the composite teeth but seems to be just as durable or more so. No issues so far with mine.

In talking to E Z the new composite tenth are suppose to align better because of the manufacturing process and in durability testing they hold up better than the machine cut teeth on the aluminum. The oval design came about to stop the twist that was inherent in the round tube and the new adjustment lock is supposed to work better than the original clamp design. All of these came about from fisherman input to E Z.

I’ve got the older style and I’m going to swap to the new model as soon as possible. Better design!

Great info all! I was very pleased regardless when i installed last night, just wasn’t sure why it looked different than the picture. I will say this, these things are STOUT! Beefy and no shake or movement whatsoever when i tried to move with my hands. Very imporessed with the seats, base and holders for sure.

It's all good. I have the older model which has seen much use and abuse, still going strong. I can see the advantages to the new ones, but it's gonna take me awhile to wear out these older models!
