I think the fishing there is always better with a lot of water coming thru the spillway. But then I haven't fished it for quite a while.

yeah the first time i ever went there was in 2002 when i was 10 idk what was on the end of my mine but i cast out with a purple bass worm with 30 pound test line and boom!!

as soon as it hit the water something took off and snapped my line within 4 seconds... then it happened again 10 minutes later lol given back then i didnt understand about the drag system so it was tight but still a fish big enough t snap 30 like that is pretty big id think i still cant think of what that could have been to hit a big plastic worm like that maybe a flathead? massive stripper?

but ever since then i have had 0 luck the last 12 years or so

They do catch a flathead from time to time in the spillway. I'm friends with Bill Pennington the old manager of the lake and from time to time they shut off the water to inspect on the inside of the spillway. He said that there are bumpers, like in parking lots, on the bottom of it and they see a lot of flatheads behind those bumpers even with the water shut off. Back in 2002 there were some strippers in the lake. Put and take. If you can get there try in the eddies up at the retaining wall, where I have had the best luck, never had a lot of luck anywhere there. It's about time to fish the dam in the lake for catfish, they spawn on the rocks. I'm way too old to walk the rocks so be careful and not fall young fella. Another thought, I think the biggest fish in the lake are blue cats.

whoever put those strippers in the lake should be ashamed. They should leave them on stage or poles where they belong.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

yeah i like flathaads though for there taste and the look of them and fact they are like a bass has huge mouth and my god do they fight!! i caught a 5 pounder today on a dead bluegill off arundale road bridge great spot there for cats

so you think that what probably broke my line was a massive stripper? it was in 2002 when i was 10

i can tell you this i caught a 35 pound flathead in the walls of the spillway in 2010 with a cast net lol it took 3 people t help pull him up the walls he ruined my net

There were some being caught back then that were pretty large so it could be true. If it moved rapidly it may well have been, the flatheads and blue cats I have caught were more pullers than speed demons.

its weird it was the first time i had ever been to the spillway right when i first got into fishing i was only using lures and 2 times i got my 30 pound testline snappped the second time 1 second after it hit the water bam!!! snapped it

whats funny is back then i was getting tons of hits on lures and today even with good live baits i cant catch crap.. idk if its the lake or what but the spillway i heard use to be a great place and now it seems to be a joke i havent heard of anyone having good fishing there in over a decade
