    Default Short bites

Hey guys, I made my first trip down to Sardis Wednesday-Friday and boy was it windy!! A 15mph wind is like 25mph on ky & Barkley.. We did manage to catch some nice fish, but had several short bites, where they would grab the minner and run, but didn’t take the hook.. My question is, Has anyone ever tried a small stinger treble hook on the back of the minnow like used for sauger fishing? What’s y’alls thoughts?

I’ve used stringer hooks before on short striking fish. They work great. Just remember that if you add a stringer hook, that bait is now considered 2 Baits by game and fish. If you add a hook to any bait, the stringer is the second bait.

Is there a limit to how many baits?

Yes, on the big four its 2 hooks per pole, so if you rig stinger hook as BRM said it's considered the second hook or bait. So if you fish a regular C&C rig you would want to remove top hook. I actually sat down with a couple of wardens and discussed this at length. That's how they explained they would enforce it.

I have been lucky, thanks for the info! I use a trailer hook when the fish start doing that. A # 10 or 12 treble hook with a piece of heat shrink tubing over the hook eye, works perfectly. I will remember that counts as 2 hooks.

So a crank with 2 hooks is considered ok on one pole, even with a road runner above it? If you add a trailer to one bait, it is considered all you can have on that one pole?

Exactly. The crank comes with two hooks MADE on it = 1 bait. A Roadrunner above it is 2 Baits. Perfectly legal. ADD a trailer hook to either, Not legal. That equals 3 Baits or hooks.

If a bait is MANUFACTURED with multiple hooks it’s considered one hook or bait.
