Wouldn't it more likely be a regular Blacknose Black Crappie, than a Magnolia Crappie, seeing as how Miss. only stocked small bodies of water with the Magnolia Crappie (hybrid cross) ?? Or were you just saying "magnolia crappie" as a reference to a Blacknose CAUGHT IN Mississippi (the Magnolia State) ??
In either event, looks like a good'ern .... congrats !!
It would be a Blacknose / Black stripe crappie, the Magnolias are used to stock ponds and aren't supposed to reproduce, the blacknose is a natural occurring variation in black crappie, pretty rare. And on a side note, Enid is the only lake of the big 4 family that has had a need for any kind of restocking of crappie, and no Magnolias were introduced I'm guessing. All the other 3 lakes have the native crappie that were in the rivers prior to the damming of them, none were introduced. I still call blacknose crappies Magnolias too, even though technically not correct it just sounds better. Either way cool fish, I've only ever caught one as well, and coincidentally it was on Sardis.
I have never heard the term " magnolia crappie " before. I am from TN and normally fish KY lake. I have caught 2 of them on ky lake in my years. We always called them " blood nosed " crappie.
Its funny I did some research and found where these fish were introduced at and it was over 100 miles away 2 years prior when I caught the first one.
Both of the blood nosed crappie I caught were small. So I took a pic and released.
