Default Question for the tournament fisherman

When y’all are not prefishing/fishing for a tournament do you still go out with the intention of catching the 7 biggest fish that you can find or do you just go fishing and not put an emphasis on the size? Say you were fishing on a COE lake and you found some fish but they were all in the 11-13 inch range. Would you pick up and try to find bigger fish somewhere else?

Yep,some days the weather conditions make it rough.Since i started tournamant fishing i do alot of exploreing now.Even if i have fish located i still try alot of new places and teqniques. When i fun fished i would stay in my comfort zone 99% of the time.

I believe the different techniques have taken me out of comfort zones and made me a better fisherman. The tournaments are another entirely different animal along with the stress that we put on ourselves.
We have faired better in tournaments out of state than in our own backyard. And I attribute that to my own ignorance. Sometimes when your on fish, don't move just to go find more fish. On tourney day, you don't normally find those other fish.

Default Question for the tournament fisherman

Even when fun fishing, I’m still looking for ways to catch bigger fish. I might stay and whoop on the keeper size fish when I find em, but I like to practice the same way I play. To me the real key is finding the pattern most fish are using and then finding big fish areas on that pattern. On most lakes you’ll discover several different patterns that are working. In that case I try to find the best pattern for the bigger fish. If you practice like you play, you’ll make yourself a better fisherman whether fun fishing or tourney fishing. Fun fishing just helps you polish your skills without the pressure.
