That's cause you're just a chap, you see in the old days MISS was the abreviation and Mississippi boat registration us MI for the first part of the numbers. Then some yankee came along with a bright idea to shorten the abreviations to just 2 letters saving us an awesome .0357 seconds now when we right it, thanks yank, and apparently Mississippi had dibs on MI.
I do love when some guy from Illinois ask me, what part of Michigan you from, I just tell em about 30 miles south of Detroit!!!

This thread brings to mind what happened to me at Reelfoot in 2014. We were staying at Cypress Point, and you had to back about 40 yards to their ramp due to buildings on both sides. A Yankee said to me "You back pretty good for somebody from Michigan". I replied "I'm not from Michigan, I'm from Mississippi". His expression changed to a blank stare when I opened my mouth with my southern drawl accent. I couldn't think of an appropriate reply at the time. Rees, maybe you can give me one!
No offense to our friends in Michigan, but I sure wish our boat registration would be MS instead of MI! I'm proud of my State and our fisheries.

Hey, Rees Guide, did you mean 300 miles south of Detroit in your post above?

Regardless, if I leave the ranch here in Paducah southern bound, I can be pulling off of the Grenada exit in 4 hours 15 minutes!
And for the record, the bluegrass state is in the south! We are definitely below the Mason-Dixon Line!

Whole lotta rednecks in Missouri beg to differ. First to get in the war and last to get out!

The Mason Dixon Line has nothing to do with this.
