Sure good to see yall yesterday, you are a very lucky man!!!!
Our day began Saturday at 2 a.m. as we all arose for the big day. Excitement, anxiety, and thoughts of taters, cobblers and slabs were our fuel to get ready, and pull out at 3 a.m. Yeah, I know an hour to leave but I'm dealing with 3 ladies!!
Didn't take long on the road, but all my bosses left it up to me, and they all fell asleep. Cruise control set and 4 hours later I was pulling off at Grenada, MS exit. We stopped for breakfast at McDonald's and headed to Lakeside for some ice, and on to Grenada Landing.
Three of us put our contacts in, final bathroom stops, boat prep and here we go to launch. We also began some training of Ms. Anna and backing of trailers, launching and parking. She did very good for her first attempt.
We got our PFD's on and here we go. Went straight out to mile marker 5 and began some scanning, and the wind felt like a different direction once on the water. So headed back to Carvers Point, and marked some fish but not like what I wanted. So we road back to mile marker 7, spun it around and low and behold fish were lighting up my screens. Turned key off and it was time to go to work, it's 9:30 a.m. We didn't have 3 rods out and running before littlemama had a bruiser attached! Got that one in the boat, and I started trying to get my rods going, look over and she has another rod loaded up!
By the time we had her rods all running, and finally my rods were out, we had boated 3 fish, and 2 keepers swimming around in a filling livewell. So, she begins running that mouth, that this was going to be a contest. Then she asks for the livewell divider which was not in the boat. Then she remembers the tournament balls, and sits them up between the two us.
All of sudden she says to the girlie's to choose sides. Ms. Anna knows who the true fisherman is and jumped on my team, and the Little One was just fine with joining forces with mama.
We worked the drift from marker 5 to 7 a full lap and ran back down to 7, and had 9 keepers in the boat. By this time that ole sun was straight overhead and the wind was dying. They wanted to ride for a bit. So we ended up doing that and some scanning, and landed over on some of the Skuna flats. Didn't take long before that gnats decided that we were taking up too much of their space, so we rolled them up and headed for the dam. Several boats were up there by then which was around 1:30 p.m. I was marking some fish so we decided to give it a go. By 3p.m. we had 14 keepers and boated a total of 33 crappie and one solo slimer. We knew if didn't call it we would just keep fishing, and those taters, bbq, and cobblers were on our minds! So, we reeled them up and headed back in.
We were late to the feed, and wish we would have had more time to meet some more new folk's, and even to have been able to come for a few days, but it wasn't in the cards. The day trip was just on a whim, and knew we needed a break for us.
By the time we left Persimmon Hill yesterday evening, all of us were talking about how much fun we had. The girlie's didn't mind getting up that early to catch slabs like that! We finally got home around 11 p.m. and unloaded the boat and cleaned our catch. Of course we had to calculate who won the contest that Littlemama insisted on and trash talked the entire time on the water.
As we measured each keeper, we weighed them as well, and the girlie's kept up with each teams weights.
Of course, Ms. Anna and I won by a whopping 2 oz.! Over lunch today the losers had 2 mouthfuls of excuses as to why they didn't win and why it is truly a tie because each team had 7 fish each. Regardless, making memories has no rules and we know that little moments like these the girlie's will never forget! Oh, and their sun burns from yesterday are talking to them today as well.....
