I've got a solution to the carp issue. Paint a portrait of my mother in law on the dam gates. Won't a fish, animal, or wilder beast come close to it. As far as shorts, I'm glad I'm catching them. That's future fish frys. I'll keep 8 or 9 a trip. Sometimes I won't keep any. But as long as I'm catching, I'm happy. I don't keep anything out of my home lake Butla. I like catching them, let them go so I can catch them again later on. It would really worry me if I didn't catch anything. That would mean either the population is WAY down or I'm just that bad of a fisherman. I'm take all the dinks you can throw my way and be happy about it.

If the objective is to increase the percentage/overall number of fish over 12 inches without causing a fuss....
I would allow anglers to keep whatever size fish they want. To some extent. I’d also do away with personal limits and make a boat limit. For example
10 fish under 12 inches and 10 fish over 12 inches per boat. Doesn’t matter how many people or how few people. One boat cannot take more than 10 fish per day over 12 inches and no more than 10 fish under 12 inches. The maximum amount of crappie per boat is 20 fish.

I honestly think this would tick some folks off but I do believe it would accomplish the objectives
Thanks Dutchman thanked you for this post

Tried something similar at Washington. Didn’t work out so well. I agree to lower the BOAT limit tho.

Short fish kept just takes away from over 12" fish the following year. If torn gill fish are kept legally , I promise you there will be a lot more torn gill fish show up.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

Yup!!! The over 11” thing did more harm than good the few years they tried it at Sardis.

Yea but in that case you were only allowed to take 3 plus yr old fish. And you were allowed to take 40 of them per boat. In my scenario it would spread out the age class that’s being kept. Not to mention 4 times the fish over 12 inches would have a chance every yr because only 10 are kept per boat.

I don’t think you understand there objective. It’s to maintain trophy status. 12 to 14 inch fish are not what they consider trophy I wouldn’t think. With the rule that’s set now we are taking fish out as soon as they reach that length. So what there trying to do is figure something out to increase the amount of bigger fish. I understand not as many fish will reach 12 inches if you take them out before they get there but what about the 13 inch fish that was released because the angler already had 10 fish over 12 in his boat?

Pretty sure at Washington u could keep x amount of fish but you were allowed to have x amount under. Totally different if your limited to the number of large fish. This allows culling

There is an old saying the goes something like this:
"K.I.S.S., it means to Keep It Simple Stupid!"

Let the pro's do what they do best which is successfully managing currently the best crappie fisheries in the U.S. Period!

    I don't agree with keeping short fish. I don't keep anything that won't touch 12 1/2"unless
I am fixing to quit. Then I might keep a 12 3/8". I wouldn't have a problem with a 10 fish limit if they would let me keep my 4
    poles.
