The big 4 habitat dates will be posted as soon as we find them. Enid is set as the first Saturday of February followed by the next 3. This year it was Enid, Sardis, Nader then Butla. High water, nasty weather knocked a lot of people from going to Sardis day, claim they had it. Nader and Butla canceled their's due to high water.
Plan a work day on a Saturday during January. Search for material that can be used without to much work and close to us. Wood and bamboo stakes 3 to 6 foot long work great. Pallets do good, but are a lot of work and take up to much space in a load.
Our last work day there were 4 of us for the better part of a morning. We cut bamboo into stakes, bundled about 20 together and filled a 4X8 trailer. The tops were loaded into our trucks, we have to clean up everything. We contacted Butla lake manager as to were to drop off tops. The stakes were stored on the trailers until a few days before habitat day then dropped in the area where we would be working.
Pick up Christmas trees the days after and store until they can be used. Ask a seller what they do with their trees after Christmas. We've had trees in the past that still had wraps on them.

Yeah I've done contacted Butla field office about 2 weeks ago and they said they haven't announced it yet. I can pick up pallets and maybe some cane. I'll start gathering.

Looking at craigslist, Memphis, Free section I find pallets and pallet wood not to far away. Get it now before others get it for firewood. I would have to store it outside, maybe a tarp over it.
I collect sawdust/shavings and scrap wood from a shop in midtown. Some of the scrap is long enough for stakes.
I'll check the bamboo places I know of soon and arrange a work day.
Best to cut and bundle it while it's green. Best to do it on a cool to cold day cause it does get hot.
South of the southwest corner of Shelby dr and Airways the property is fenced off with airport property signs. There's a huge thick plot of bamboo there. Just need someone that can get us in and set a date to cut.

I did some beds last year after a duck hunt on the ms river this year. This coming Jan about 10 of us and 5 boats are going to put 10 stake beds in 25ft x 25ft big beds to hold alot of fish. So if you fish them next year you will know who did them. So the field office usually has christmas trees and stakes or bamboo at the ramp for ppl to put them out so come out its fun and good for kids to do, plus I will bring the donuts to get started.

Don't they have a size diameter regulation on stakes? Can't be no bigger than a 2 x 2?

Don't think there is. Some of the bamboo we get is maybe 3", Pallets have 1X4 or 6's and 2X4 or 6's. They ask us not to use plastics, but you'll see a lot of plastic barrels used for cat traps when the water's down.
I've seen what copper does to fish in an aquarium so I wouldn't use to for ties.

They have every donut you can think of but I can bring whatever it all cost the same. I really only want to do it when lake is at 210 or 211. At those levels the best ramp will be Dub Patton or buyou point but I prefer Dub Patton. So for the beds its any wood you can get ahold of and what I have for there is they really like PVC pipe throughout the bed bc it holds plankton better and that brings bait and so on lol you get the idea. We will just stay updated on this. Christmas trees don't help so you all know not to use those and stakes need to be 6 to 8ft so you can fish them in shallow and deep water. I want to make it hard for trollers lol sorry guys but thd thump is way more fun.... We are figuring some time in December or January unless water comes down before then.

Can get some concrete anchors and cord from the COE. I'll call to see when/where they can be picked up. About how many anchors?
