They would wear the pavement out going home and come back after every five fish . Now they only have to go home after fifteen , thirty or forty .

That and you better believe 75% of all the folks that come back to the ramp would miraculously have those 5 gill ripped fish

I wish they would outlaw using treble hooks. I know last trip out cranking, i let go personally 5-6 that were dead when they went back in. Bleeding, and the gills hanging out.

Think they tried that at first. Didn't work, as the "deep hooked rule" was abused by a lot of people.

If you are that worried about it it's pretty easy to replace the treble hooks on a crankbait with regular hooks. You could even remove the front hook all together without replacing it with anything. No need to wait for a change in regulations if it is something you feel strongly about. You wont be able to make everyone do it but that's life. A wise man once told me that if you are ever confused about what you have control over just draw a circle around yourself, everything inside the circle is what you have control over, everything outside the circle is what you have no control over.
    I got 350 heads on a 305 engine.
I get 6 miles to the gallon.
I aint got no good intentions.

That's exactly what the MDWFP recommends in their fishing reports!

I wonder if a slight increase in trolling speed would reduce the amount of gut-hooked fish?

When I start hooking the fish deep in their mouth I increase my trolling speed and it seems to decrease the deep hook ups.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.
