For what its worth I've had some luck pulling pink bandits closer to the causeway. It was last year but under similar conditions. I put in at fannin landing and went straight out.

We even tried using corks clipped on the lines to keep the cranks shallow but away from the boat (tip from John Rees) but that didn't seem to help. The one keeper crappie hit a pink Pico 10 ft. Down

Well you got me whooped, your cranking experience out dates my existence by 10 years or so. Just curious, being from Grenada and spending a lot of time around and fishing it in my younger years, how and what kind of cranks were y'all pulling in the 60's and 70's? Was just having a discussion this morning with a fellow member and we were reminiscing about the days of past, I didn't have any knowledge of cranks being pulled back then. My uncle owned a bait-shop there by the lake for better than 35 years and he didn't stock no cranks I don't recall.

Snubbys, back in the day we had two crankbaits that we pulled. They were the original dive bomber (wood) and the arbo-gaster from Fred Arbo-gaster lures. The bombers we used were the 3" ones and the best color was " Christmas tree", white with green back and vertical green stripes and covered with silver glitter. When we heard bomber was selling out to Pradco we went to Collins bait shop and bought all the bombers he had in stock.
My dad left me with his box of bombers and I used them for years until my tackle box was stolen of my boat at the campground at Grenada back in 91. Someone got over 75 bomber and a few Arbo-gaster cranks.

Hate to hear of all those vintage baits going to a thief. I was passed down an old tackle box back in the mid 80's with a bunch of old baits my grandad used. Mostly all Heddon's I recall, torpedo's and frogs and such, so old I was scared to use them. The box was lost in a house fire in the early 90's as well as a vintage Model 99 Winchester 30-30. Sounds like you guys were pioneers of the new era, I know of Collins baitshop very well, spent many a day there too. Thanks for sharing, I'm always curious to the older methods used

Yes, it broke my heart to lose all those great crankbaits. After bomber sold out to Pradco they changed the lures and replaced the wood with plastic and put rattles in them. Crappie wouldn't touch'em. I've often wondered if it was the action or the rattles that turned 'em off. If it was the rattles I've noticed some bandit 300's on eBay without rattles. Thinking about trying some of them. Has anyone tried them compared to ones with rattles on crappie?

Man I had no idea pulling cranks for crappie had been around that long. I grew up fishing the same spots I still fish today.. only then it was just a single pole. I had a daddy that could always scratch out a mess of perch from Barnett so it didn’t make sense to drive anywhere else. Although we did have a place at eagle and we’d fish there and Albermarle and we’d spend a week at Washington in the early spring to fish with my uncle and cousin.
I started pulling jigs and cranks about 11-12 years ago and even then If I seen someone else pulling on Barnett I knew exactly who it was... the guy who shared a lot of info with me when I started! just wasn’t anyone doing it.
Didn’t spend a lot of time on the Corp lakes growing up so I guess I would have known of it sooner if so
