    Default Double minnow rigs

For those who make there own, how far do you space out the hooks? With the heavier weights, say a 1 oz, is 26-30 inches ok? Or does it matter? Shallower water would mean a lighter weight and closer together, right?? I have a regular swivel on the main line and just clip these to it.

I tie mine with 6 in drop on top, 18 in with 1/2. 20 with 3/4 and 22 with 1 oz. 1/2 for less than 12 ft, 3/4 for 10- 14 ft anything over go to 1 oz. that's all based on fairly calm conditions. Gets rough I will go to the 1 oz no mater depth. I do have a few double minnow rigs tied like bowmender for just minnows in shallow water. Just expirment and see what you like best.

The spacing depends on whether I'm trying to figure out what depth they are at or I already know. If they could be at say 9-13 feet down, I'll space them around 18" but If I know they are at say 10-11 feet down, I'll put the hooks closer together. In the spring and I'm in 4-6 FOW, I'll only have the 8" to a foot max

I like Cray' set ups. Very similar to mine but I rarely fish my bait over 8 ft deep in the water I fish which is rarely over 18 to 20 FD and stay home on rough windy days. I don't fish minnows just double jigs.

I've made some a little far apart. Thanks for the input. Saw a guy at the ramp one day with two jigs on his main line about 3-4 feet apart, no egg sinker. Was wondering if I needed to spread some of mine apart. He may have been doing something different.

He was more than likely longlining with no weight and jigs that far apart.
