You were near Trace Lake, it's directly out from the northernmost visable concrete bridge on the Natchez Trace. Their are channel markers sporadically placed between Trace lake and Three Prong leading toward the river channel and Saddle Bags and Konklin Lakes. The markers are widely spaced and hard to follow, if you get out of the channel you are likely to run into big stumps and/or rebar. Proceed with caution, but it can be very productive this time of year.

Yes the river channel runs next to those markers. Has some brush piles that will eat every crankbait you have ! Never seen any stripers in that area either. I would look between rice lake and lost rabbit for the stripers. I try to avoid them. I haven't seen that many this year.

Trace lake would be a pretty good bet right now I suppose, and the lake just south of it usually holds some real good fish this time of year, but I would talkin about jigging and not crankin.

Thanks. Having a pontoon limits the areas I would like to go. Traded a runabout for it years ago (wife's choice. LOL). We usually troll in the area Brad was talking about. We have not found them this year. Lost a couple of nice fish. About a week ago, a friend of mine said he caught a hybrid in the area I was asking about.

One day I will break down and buy a boat I can get in the stumps.

I found an online article "Crappie Hotspots Series: Lower Ross Barnett Reservoir" from Mississippi Sportsman. I found the article after visiting the area I visited on Sunday. Area 5 outside Bend seemed to be similar. I need to check the GPS coordinates.

Those stripers will be in different areas each day. I've found them out in front of lost rabbit one day, then the next, Sound of Fannin landing

You need to take a ride with me on my toon. I take it through everything. It gets scrap and a few dents but I bought it to use. It has the larger diameter pontoons that makes it run shallower water than my glass bass boat did. I did have to put a spacer between transom mount and floor to get the motor down in the water .
Biggest crappie to date is 3 lb 9 oz at grenada in 1988. Still hangs on my wall.
