    Default Campground near Mills creek

I'm looking over my map of the area for a campground for tent camping. I know of jp coleman, pickwick landing and one near high point. I see another one north of burnsville, turnpike hill. Is there anything closer?
We're thinking, head over there friday morning, set camp then fish. Get up saturday morning, take up camp, fish then come home.

Mill Creek has a campground that is pretty full right now with campers, but if I remember right I think they will let you put a tent up in there also. I looked and found this website that tells you a little more about them, it also has numbers to call

    Mill Creek Marina

I think there might be a public ground area just past the Eastport Marina...I think it's a public launch and I see people camped out there all the time. It's gonna be just about 4 miles up Bear Creek from Mill...it's right where Bear Creek meets the main river. It's way closer than JP Coleman which will be about a 9 mile run.

Also check the Colbert County Park on the Alabama side...it's almost directly across from Mill Creek...a very short run...maybe a mile or two by boat. I hear they have a nice campground.

I looked over the Eastport site, it's nice too, email sent to them.
I looked over Colbert county, I think I found the campground.
Most of these campgrounds are getting away from tent camping, catering to rv's.
But the cabins look good, if I can plan a 2 night trip.

I'm not talking about the actual Eastport Marina...just beyond that there is public ramp with no launch fee. I can't think of the name of it right now...but I alway see people tent camping on that spot...it's really primitive...no water...no nuttin. They just pull their truck out there and pitch a tent. Just a thought.

That is a thought, but would like electicity for the coffee maker and heat in tent if needed. May need a light to clean fish.
    Thanks

The only thing open at Mills creek is the transit pad. No rez taken on it, first come.
I see on the map north of burnsville, east side of the water way. A place called Turnpike Hill. I've looked at a lot of websites since I spotted it, but can't find info on it.
Ms. cane found a site about jp coleman, showed sundays caps. only. The 25th is at 95%. No clue what the 23rd would be if we had to stay there. Could look into a motel for the night.

JP Coleman has both cabins and a motel/lodge. About half of the cabins are undergoing renovation currently so it's looking more full than it really is. The motel rooms are really nice if you can get one of those. I think that park is the best deal going...cheap and in a perfect location. They're killing the crappie on Indian Creek just about like they are on Mill Creek. You can rent a covered slip at JP for 10 bucks a night...and you can be crappie fishing the second you leave the dock. I stay there a lot so if you have any questions I'd be happy to tell you what I know.
