    Default Where's the ice fishermen?

There doesn't seem to be many people from up north on this great site. Never been much of a person who posts a lot. I love open water fishing for crappie and just got into ice fishing a few years ago. I drove semi for many years so by the end of the week of sliding around on ice and snow the last thing I felt like doing was to go sit out on the ice lol. But I'm kinda enjoying it now that I retired. Live up by Mille Lacs lake, dozens of lakes in the area. The big pond hasn't froze up yet, just the south bay. I'm in Garrison on the NW side. Been getting a few, but warm weather and rain is coming. Not good. Is anyone else from this area? These are from last year. Sure would like to find some crappie.com people up this way. I work at a bait store, so, there may be a discount available lol.

Welcome and thanks for the great post. We don’t get fishable ice here in SE Ohio so the opportunity doesn’t exist. In NE Ohio we have a couple of members who get on the ice. I look forward to more of your reports.

There are some nice crappie in there but it seems mostly on the south side. I rarely fish on Mille Lacs, there are many other lakes in the area that are great multi species lakes. I live up on the northwest side. You can get some world class small mouth and some good walleye and perch up here. Not to mention huge pike and muskie on the NW side. We're finally making ice out there now. -15 last night with a high of -3. Going to be cold for a while.
