Its a wonderland for sure. All year. The ice, in spite of it getting to 14 below zero last night, still has bad spots in the backwaters if current is around. The fishing has been real sporadic...almost poor so far.

Three days with temps below zero that didn't crack the zero mark on the positive side should have helped set up decent ice on the big river now. Pool will benefit from the lack in operation of one of the two turbines at the nuke facility at Prairie Island north of Red Wing. With just one operating turbine areas of the river just a couple miles down river from the dam are froze shore to shore. The Frontentac Beach area, the Hok-Si-La beach area and Trailer Point area in Lake City all should be seeing ice enough for wheeler traffic, but I'd pass on vehicles of any kind. Its finally above zero at 7 degrees right now ad it feels like summer compared to yesterday morning. lol
