    Default Welcome Minnesota

I'm a NC boy myself. Just wanted to say congrats on the forum. I've never done any ice fish'n. It's hard enough to find the little boogers with a boat.LOL Anyways, hope to see some more of those great pics.

    Default Ice fishing

Actually Ice fishing isn't very hard at all. It's pretty much like fishing out of a boat. Instead, your walking or riding a wheeler. Your target your fish just like you would in the summer and go from there. Although the temperatures are a little colder and you have to use an auger and drill your holes it's alot of fun! With the new technology that is out these days, eg. Cameras, Flashers, it makes it really easy. Another great thing about ice fishing is you can sleep in your boat! Well not really a boat but a fish house. :D

Ice fishing is Great and I think many of you would really enjoy it! It's really nice when you have this to fish out of

Thumbs up Cool. Glad to see a Minn Forum

That rig you're icefishing out of doesn't resemble the glorified outhouses we used to drag out there and and try to avoid dieing of exposure in while watching the Purple People Eaters battle Da Bears. But it DOES look comfy.

I fish with my cousin alot when I get home. He lives in N St Paul. We did a
couple warm weather trips a couple years ago for walleye on Mil Lacs and on
the Missouri Riv north of Chaimberlin, SD. Did well. Are you fishin Lower Red Lake? I don't even know anymore where you can fish there with the special regs with the Nat Americans always changing.

Thanks for taking on moderating the forum, I am glad to see it here and will no doubt read it steady and snipe in for a post occasionally. Take care.

This picture was taking off of Lake of the woods a couple weeks ago, but I have fished upper red lake. The natives own the whole lower portion plus alot of the upper portion so theres not much room to get into them, but if you do its fantastic. A couple of years ago the lake was fantastic for crappie fishing because all of the walleyes had been commercial fished almost to extinction. So in turn the crappies thrived and grew to enormous sizes. 15 inchers was an average crappie for Red lake and anything less would usually be tossed back down the hole. Due to DNR restocking programs and no season for the past couple of years the walleye population is back on the upswing and fishing is outstanding. The Large crappies are still there, there just a little harder to find:D

I would like to try ice fish'n. I've read a few articles and watched a couple ice tournaments, enough to peak my interest. I don't turn down any type of fish'n. plus if I could sleep with my rod in my hand, I'd probably have some awesome dreams. LOLLooks like a lot of fun.

I got a chance to go icefishing last Jan in MN. That was one of the best trips I've ever had, we didn't catch any big ones but we had a BALL! 3' of ice and driving 7mi out onto LOW was something. Iwould like to do it again, but don't know if I'll ever get a chance. If I do I will!

I just got back from my trip to Lake of The Woods, and fishing was spotty to say the least. Our first day was alright, only catching one keeper walleye. The second day turned out to be alot better, we caught around 15 eyes keeping 9 of them.good trip in all and I will post pics later
