    Default Tim's Ford

I'm staying in one of the cabins at the Marina at the end of the week for a fishing trip with my wife. I usually fish guntersville lake(from huntsville). Never fished TF, what I'm curious about is how is the crappie fishing up there right now, live bait or plastics and colors? Any help is greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

Hey Matt, I'm a member of the Middle Tennessee Crappie Club. We fish Tim's on a rotating tourney schedule and our tourney this March 21 is on Tim's. Reports have been few and far between due to weather. The lake has risen quite a bit in the last week and they have been spilling a lot of water at the dam. My advice would be to look for clearer water on the lower end and fish treetops. We have our club meeting thursday at 7 o'clock at Skip's Grill in Winchester. You are more than welcome to come to the meeting as a visitor and I'm sure you would get the latest information. Best of luck and I hope you have a good trip.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm hoping that we can get to the meeting but we are leaving after work Thursday, so we may not be in town by then. Just one more question what colors are working up there? On Gville I use a lot of kalins Tennessee shad, and bleeding Tennessee shad. Thanks again in advance.

Welcome to Tim's Ford lake. We are also in the club. Jerry and I fished there last weekend and also plan on fishing the tournament. We found mostly yellow bass but there were some nice ones of those. Just find bait fish and they will be there. Have gotten some reports of guys using blue and monkey milk colors with limited results. Jerry and I used minnows and were able to boat 3 with only 1 keeper. Fish were around blow downs. We fished up the river south of Estill springs bridge. If you are in the cabins at the state park that may be more of a ride then you may want to take. But there are plenty of docks in that area that I would pay attention to. Small mouth are starting to move up and that may be a better bet to fish for. Look for structure around creek mouths and you will find them there. With the weather we are having this week the fish will be moving shallow as the water warms. So I would check out any sunny shoreline. Also watch for jumping fish. If you see them jumping ease up there and through a floating bait or minnow under a float. Could be stripper, small mouth, or large mouth busting the bait fish. Can be lots of fun when you find this situation. The river section was muddy with lots of wood floating around. Hopefully that clears up some but do be careful if you go up that way. Since you can't make the meeting you are more then welcome to attend the weigh in at Devils Step ramp and 2 oclock. We should see some good fish caught. I hope. Good luck and good fishing to you.

Guys thanks for all the guidance. We didn't catch any crappie, but we did get on some feeding small mouth. What a blast! Beautiful lake and deep. Hope to get up there again sometime. Thanks again
