    Default Is it gunna snow?

Weatherman talks like its gunna snow.I never fished before in the snow. I bet some of you have though and would like to share a crappie fishing story of catching something in the snow. My barber told me a few years ago, that he went to the lake one time, had his wife with him and they fished out of a flat bottom boat and it was snowing and very cold that day but they caught the hang out of some crappie. He was fishing the upper end of Woods that day.Tell me your fishing in the snow/cold story if you have one.

Done the cold but not the snow. Always caught enough to make me glad I didn't stay home. Steering cables don't like to work til it warms up some so have a place in mind close to the ramp just in case. Met a man who tried to get his friends to go with him, and they all declined for one reason or another. So, like us, he went anyway. Smallmouth on Tims was his choice that day. Long story short, he culled his way thru 3 limits of keeper smallies before putting the boat back on the trailer with 4" of snow on the front deck. I wish he'd had my number that day. I got so much goin on I don't know if I'll get to fish this weekend - again.

More than likely headed up to Normandy tomorrow.Gotta be some bigguns that aint seen a hook in a while over there still. BTW, I bought one of those add a seats and have used it once already. I was very impressed with it and really like it.........Dont think I have seen a soul around here use one yet, but there will be more I am sure of it. Its especially good now when you are both trying to fish ledges and its just easier when you only have to manage the front only in a wind and not both. Also you can fish 3 folks in your boat easily when you have 2 on one end and 1 on the other.

Guys, I have to say I woke up this morning to seeing white stuff on the ground. I then turned the news on and enjoyed watching everyone freak out about the snow. It's a little humerous to me to hear how TN gets with 1 inch of snow on the ground (however I learned last year not to drive with ya all on the road when it snows :D). I am thankful however that the Percy Priest tournament was cancelled for today. I-24 is closed down in Murfreesboro due to black ice and there are a TON of accidents. Thank goodness nobody had to drive up for the tournament.
Thanks chimneyman thanked you for this post

I 24 around Murfresboro is famous for black ice. I got in it at hickory hollow exit about 2 years ago. Had about 10 cars piled up at exit ramp. I was in my dodge 4x4 and just hit the ditch and came up on the exit ramp.turned around and came home. Saw on the news where theyre were about 40 cars in that mess when I got home. Thank God for four wheel drive.

Yeah got off work this morning and was kinda glad the tournament was canceled. So I thought I would go to my favorite little hang out and have a few adult beverages. On the way there I seen 4 suv's in the ditch some flipped some just wrinkled all on 1 hill both sides of the road.So I went on over the hill and pulled in the bar and had breakfast and drinks watching the traffic go by.Then came on home went to bed and slept all day.But I wouldnt mind being on the water after them crappie though and meeting up with some of yall from yalls club.

I have fished in the snow a number of times, usually through the ice but a few times in a boat. Dec. 20, 1990 I fell through the ice while fishin backwater on the Mississippi. Fortunatly the water was only 4 1/2 feet deep. Air temp was close to 50 but it was a long cold walk back to the truck, about a half mile. I never ice fished the river after that but did ice fish a few local farm ponds. I've been wantin to get out and do some fishin here lately but now a days I catch a cold real easy and I always have a hard time shakin one so I'll just wait for warmer temps.

    Talking Reason for limits

GCF, You wanted snow stories. I have too many to tell. Growing up in East TN and fishing on Douglas lake in the 70's and 80's was the abosolute best the first week on January when the water level on Douglas was drained down real low in the upper end. I will tell you that the least amount that we caught one day in '81 was 360. Yes that is right. The most was 504. There was not a limit on crappie then and it took special circumstances to get to them. There were so many fish that when you ran your boat motor that they would be churned up from the prop. The fish would be in 3' of water and you would catch them under a bobber anywhere from 6" to 1' deep on hair jigs. Only the curly tail mister twister were available then and they did not work too well in cold water. Sure did make alot of people happy to see all those fish brought home to clean. Fish were in an area that only one boat could fish and you had to get there 1 hour before light to get the spot. Nice and cold!:D My Dad has some old photos of crappie beside our house laid out in the yard that covered almost the entire yard. Lost of fish in those days.

I've heard some of the locals talk about those days and fish they caught.
It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
