Default Finally experienced the big "O"!!!!

Okeechobee that is. I enjoy fishing new bodies of water, fishing for me is more about the adventure then the catching although i like to catch too. This lake has been on my bucket list since I was a kid seeing it on bass fishing shows. Once you get there, what a huge body of water!!!! The lake is well over 25 miles across, muddy, muddy and full of vegetation that is over a third of a mile from dry land into the lake, at least everywhere I explored.

Worked the boat up through the vegetation throwing a variety of plugs, plastic and jigs. Everywhere you looked was that perfect pocket that had to hold fish!!!! Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to deal with the water clarity. I couldn't see the head of my white trolling motor just inches under the surface!!!! Covered 25 miles and couldn't find any change. But, I did find a change in contour in a overflow canal. Threw jigs under a float against the cover of the canal edge and caught my first Okeechobee crappie! Caught another 3 and I also caught a nice 3 lb bass using the same method.

Did a little dipping into the thick areas with BnM long jigging rod. (Steelguy would have loved this.) I haven't done it much and missed way more then I caught. But I did managed to swing a few more crappie out that way. There is a 10" limit on this body and a couple thru the day would not have made the cut. Like anywhere though, if you could fish it regularly it would produce.

Cool trip. The closest I've come to fish in the last month is the ones coated in cornmeal and floating in hot grease.
The older I get the more I realize the therapeutic benefits of fishing

I did not...knew about them but we didn't venture to/thru them. I hope to be able to next year when we are down. Be a cool experience in itself
