Default Michigan Rv and Crappie lake destinations

So I am a Cincinnatian recently retired, my wife and I know very little about Michigan but know there are many good lakes and here camp grounds too. So I am asking for recommendations of dog friendly RV campgrounds and lakes you would prefer, also would like to know why you like them? Also seeing I launch my boat with a 29ft rv Id prefer a boat slip and knowing the best time of year for the Crappie bite.
    Thanks ahead of time. Tom

I'm not from there, but I have been a couple times. I reccommend Houghton Lake about 15 miles east of Cadillac and the sight of this years C.c event Waffle Farms near Coldwater. Come join us the first weekend of May at Waffle Farms.

Waffle Farms has lake side lots and I think you can keep your boat in the water on your site. The campground at Houghton Lake isn't on the water so you would have to launch every day. You could try Gun Lake in Yankee Springs. They have water sites and the lots are big. Mitchell State Park in Cadillac is on the canal between lakes Cadillac and Mitchell and you can tie off to the wall in the canal.Northern Exposure on Hodenpyle dam pond is very scenic and they have docks you can rent. If I think of any more I'll let you know.

Terrific, I will look into these places. In your opinion what's the best time to Crappie fish up that way? I'm used to fishing the states south of Cincinnati.

Probably spring is best when they're shallow but they can be caught all summer and fall. We fish jigs and plastics under bobbers early in the year and long line the rest of the year concentrating on the weed edges. If we hit a productive stretch of structure we'll spot lock and throw beetle spins and road runners at them. We rarely use minnows.
