Hey all,
While it is always awesome seeing reports and pictures of giant slabs from around the country, we all know that a "lake fork" report is not always, if ever, relevant to our current situation here in the north.
I would love for this thread to serve as a living reference and resource on our great states crappie fishing.
Please share detailed reports of your outings here. Please include depth fished, over what type of structure, with what bait, at what time, in what county and any other details you might feel pertinent.
Let's also discuss here general tactics, practices and beliefs that we have and hold, to, toward and about michigan crappie fishing.
Oh and of course, pictures.. lots of pictures..
Open forum, spit ball freely.. maybe start with a photo of a personal best? Or a practice or belief you have that you feel important to the sport? You call it... let's talk Michigan crappie..

We've ran into the algae on the lakes in Ionia County for the last few weeks. Not enough to collect on the line but we could see it separating when we were trolling.
Jeff(vbottom) and I usually fish together on Lakes in Ionia, Barry and Eaton Counties. We've talked about heading east and trying lakes in your area but with gas prices like they are we've stayed closer to home. We mainly long line jigs/plastics but also dip the brush, cast and retrieve beetle spins and fish jigs and plastics under a bobber. Whatever it takes to catch fish.
We've also made quite a few trips to Louisiana and have fished D'arbonne, Poverty Point, Caney and Toledo Bend along with some of the smaller lakes around Monroe.
This is Jeff with a couple of spring slabs and me with one of my best to date

That's fantastic, look at that slob! .
I have been fishing clean out here with no issue and this morning the slime was un-fishable regardless od where on the lake I went.. boated a few little specks but didn't give it long with the wind and algae conditions being what they were..
With you guys on the tactics.. I'm often fishing my home lake so I typically have a pretty good idea of where to find fish but when I'm hitting a new body of water I locate active fish by long line trolling jigs/plastics. Usually 1.5" split tails or paddle tails on a 1/16oz jig head at .6 to .9 mph pending the depth I'm attempting to target. Usually I troll the first drop outside of a weed edge.. often times that works out to 12-18fow. Once I locate and active school I'll anchor up on them and cast a 1.5" split/ paddle tail on a 1/16 or 1/32ed while dead sticking a 1.5 split under a float on a 1/32ed.
That's awesome that you fellas get around like that. I would love to travel to some destination crappie fisheries but usually do my traveling for trout/steel and walleye. I'm on the Detroit River jigging often.. smh at these gas prices
I have a buddy who fishes Barry Co hard for crappie.. does pretty well..
Nice slabs Jeff.
Thanks for the reply spartan, I look forward to continued dialog.. if you fellas ever want to make the trip this way my boat is on the water year round with the exception of first-last ice..

I already posted some of these on the introduction thread I started on the main forum but I figure I might as well help contribute to the image collection on this thread. Some random crappie pics from the last year or so.. all MI fish. The largest of them in these pics is 15.5.. I'm just going to scroll my phone and see what I find..
