Thread: Ice fishing reels?

I used inline reels from 13 Fishing all last year, I had a couple Descent reels and a Black Betty Free fall. They both work nicely, the Descent has a button you push to put it into freespool, the Free Fall has a lever. I guess I prefer the lever but it doesn’t matter too much. The drags are okay on inlines but not like a good spinning reel. I fished a couple days with a Clam in-line reel that didn’t have freespool so you pulled line off to drop your lure, I’d avoid that unless you only fish very shallow water. For spinning reels I like the Pflueger Presidents in the 20 size.
I bought a couple in lines from Piscifun to try this winter, they seem pretty nice but I haven’t actually used them.

Thanks. I have some new line to test out and want to upgrade my reels. I like my spinning reels but sometimes the smaller sizes seem the drags are lacking. Any issues getting smaller baits to fall with the inlines?

No, they have a knob that slows down the drop. That tends to be a bigger problem than not dropping fast enough.
