I ordered a book on Michigan birds about a week ago. I had a number of choices who I bought from but opted for a seller out of Grand Rapids, mainly because I know the USPS is a joke and my mail gets processed in Grand Rapids. I figured they would scan my package, forward it to my local post office and I would have it in no time. I checked the tracking today and to my surprise (actually no surprise) my package was sent to the other side of Lake Michigan to Glendale Heights, Il. It spent a day there and was then sent to Allen Park, Mi, basically downtown Detroit. This has been a black hole for mail since covid hit and last I knew they had 40 trailer loads of mail waiting to be processed. When it finally leaves Allen Park it will be sent to-you guessed it- Grand Rapids, passing within 2 miles of my house. By the time my book gets to my house it will have traveled about 700 miles to cover the 40 miles from where it started to where I live.

I found this a bit amusing. Anyone else have snail mail horror stories?

I ordered some crappie plastics around Christmas. Got my shipping conformation on 12/28. Coming from MO. It finally arrived at my local post office today. Maybe I'll have them tomorrow.

I ordered some overalls from Round House last winter. They are American made, based in Oklahoma. They were shipped USPS. My overalls left OK, went to South Dakota, before making their way back south to AL The whole trip took them about 2 weeks.

Any time, I look, of course it says only "In Transit"

That DeJoy guy sure made things better, eh? I got an email about an unpaid invoice that still hasn't shown up in the mail. Never seen the service this bad, but my local mail carriers are awesome!

I guess the craziest part is that my book will make a 660 mile circle and wind up back where it started before making it to my local post office. My mail carrier is awesome as well.

Down here in hurricaneville the post office service is horrible. We have a town and neighborhood FB page and there are complaints about missing mail everyday. A familiar thing is for the usps to message you and say a delivery attempt was made but your driveway was blocked. I called their bluff and went there to tell them I called BS. We were home when they passed. They just shrugged and would not even look for the mail.

Another strange twist to my story. Now my package has apparently been shipped from Allen Park, Mi to Chicago Elk Grove Village distribution center, waiting transfer to........Allen Park, Mi.

If I mail something to another person in Lake Charles, the mail has to go all the way to Lafayette (an hour away) to be processed to come back to Lake Charles. Not as bad as yours but I always thought it was stupid that it couldn't just go from Lake Charles TO Lake Charles!
