Default Isla Jeans first fishing trip

My kids are home for their summer visit. My daughter, son in law and granddaughter, Isla, are in from Georgia and my son is in from Louisiana. Thursday was chosen as the day to take Isla out in Grampys boat, hopefully to catch a fish or two and to see how she would do in the boat. We went over to the Ionia State Game Areas Session Lake, a smallish no wake lake about 20 minutes from home.

About 8 am we were ready to head to the lake and if I was worried at all about Isla not wanting to go, those worries were quickly forgotten when she was the first one in the truck, buckling herself into her car seat and urging "hurry mommy". Jeff tagged along in his truck and boat to give me a hand at the launch if I needed it.

Our first stop was a weed edge where we've caught some fish in the past and after Isla caught the best red worm in the box and I showed her how to put it on the hook I made the first cast and right away had a bite. Isla helped me with the battle, holding the rod and turning the handle, and we landed her (our) first fish, a small bass. If you ask her she'll say it was this big, spreading her arms as far as she can. That's my girl!

A few minutes later we landed a twin to the first then our "honey hole" went cold. We tried a few other spots and managed to catch a small bluegill which startled her when it flopped around. After an hour or so we decided to take a break from fishing and motored across the lake to the swim beach where we spent some time laying in the sun and splashing in the water. Lunch was eaten as we took a quick tour of the lake on the way back to the launch. We talked to Jeff along the way and he was having a better day catching fish than we were but that is for him to report about. I hate to steal his thunder.

Isla fell asleep on the way home and later that afternoon, when she woke up, I asked her what she wanted to do the rest of the day. She answered matter of factly "go fishing in Grampys boat". I'm not sure but I think she's hooked.Name: 4317.jpg

Umm, the first spot was a weed edge alright. But we weren't even to the lake yet. I was following behind when suddenly Jerry pulled over and a fire drill ensued to get the potty chair out of the back........I did do a little better fishing. Caught a few crappie long lining the weed edges and scored a few bonus walleye doing the same thing. I know Steve....Sessions!!!!Name: IMG_20200625_142330772_HDR.jpg

Yep, when a 2 year old says she has to go, she has to go. Good thing she doesn't have a shy bladder.

Nice bunch of fish for a lake with no fish in it.

    Jerry,

Don’t need to be 2, I know a guy in his 50’s and when he has to go, he has TO GO.....

    He will remain a anonymous.

    Jerry,
That first picture, is that on Sessions?

Looks like a house, and didn’t know there was a house there.

They have two rental cabins where the south beach used to be, owned by the state as part of the campground.
