Default Another boat project (Haulin Ash Too)

My son Christopher got to keep his boat in his divorce settlement, so he has decided to give it a upgrade or two.

I bought this boat in 2010 from a mechanic in Saginaw area, and everything mechanical was good

. Chris got it from me and basically it sat outside and is showing signs of the elements taking control.

He stripped out the seats and carpet first. He needed a new engine cover made as the old one was heavy and cumbersome. He asked me to build a new one out of marine grade plywood as well as a new battery box.
The floor is still solid just a little discolored.

Carpet will be here this week, so that’s next.

He’s still looking at new seat options, planning on just 2, with any 3rd passenger sitting on the battery box like a jumpseat.

I will add pictures to this thread as he continues his upgrades.....

Not yet, looking at a hinge that separates so cover can be moved right out of the way to work on motor, etc.

That old nasty upholstery had to go!

There really is a lot of wasted space up in the bow of this kind of boat, unless you put small kids up there ......

So a new marine grade plywood deck is in to maximize space.

I think a couple cargo nets would go well on both sides too.

I need to pull the rusty screws out of the area the upholstery was fastened to and a good cleaning is in order!

Carpet and glue arrived so I would guess, weather permitting, Chris will get the original floor carpeted. Then some fabricating done on this new upper deck.

Chris got home early from work so he began putting the first section of carpet in.

The adhesive needs 24 hours dry time, so while that first section of carpet cures, the decision to install some Cannon tracks was made and where to install them.

Special thanks to Aaron for donating these tracks, since he put new tracks on his boat he didn’t need them.

They are going on each corner of the stern for Downriggers. Happens to be a 2x4 that runs across the stern and is carriage bolted to the fiberglass hull.

Next step, more carpet to be installed.

I’m kinda glad Chris has decided to do these upgrades, it was either sell it in the condition it was and get next to nothing or give it some TLC so it could be sold if he decides too.

Right now, my money is on that he keeps it!

Nice job Chris. Projects are great right now. I have some Berts tracks, a couple riggers, and probably other spare parts you might be able to use. Can't wait to see what you do with the front. Put a ledge around the top of the dog house so things can't come off. You know you will put crap up there.

Since it wanted to rain today we brought Chris project inside and got that front deck platform started, cut in 2 hatch cover holes and then secured it to the fiberglass hull

Then secured those 6” canon tracks in place for downriggers

Also ripped some plywood, wrapped it with carpet for the lower trim and shelf support edge

Checked out some electrical connections so lights and accessories work.

Seats come in about a week and so will the hatch covers. That’s going to be it until then.
