    Default My dad

As some of you know, my dad had to go in the hospital Jan. 9, the day before we were leaving for our trip to Hawaii. First, his care is the priority whether I went or not. Luckily my brother was able to drive from the UP to take care of dad so we could go.
A few days later he was released to a rehab center here in Charlotte for care and therapy. He had a very small stroke, vertigo and bladder infection which required a catheter. He was progressing pretty well for being 94, until last Thursday, the infection got worse causing his mind to do weird stuff including ripping out his catheter.....OUCH!
The upside to that is that he remembers nothing because his mind was somewhere else, and he no longer needed the catheter, he was finally able to empty his bladder normally.
He was released to my care yesterday after a month long stay, and was glad to be home.

My dad has never been an emotional person, at his dads funeral my grandma told him he better not cry.
He has told me “I love you” just twice in my whole life, I know he does, he just can’t say it so those words were never spoken between us.
After this stay and a very bad day I thought we were going to lose him, I decided that it may be late in his life.....but I am going to say those words from this day forward. So I have been,.....he still can’t say them but it makes me feel better.
The one other thing that bothered me was, we didn’t get to go fishing together last year like we hoped to.

By God, if he can go this year, we ARE going, it might be the last time!

I will keep you and your dad in my prayers!! It's a hard thing to do having to see them go through all of that. I have lost both of my parents now and I am so thankful that I was able to care for them until the end. Me & my dad had a very similar relationship as you and your dad. We never really said I Love You to each other however we showed it every day to each other. I hope you both can get to do some more fishing together! Those are some of the most cherished memories I have with my father is sitting in the boat or on a bank and fishing. Even if we didn't catch anything it was priceless time!

Glad to hear dad is better and out of the hospital. I think it is a good plan to spend all the time you can making memories and catchin' up the backlog of "I love yous".
I say that, because my dad died (fairly suddenly) before I had a chance to catch up... and ever since... it's something I've hated (not doing) more than anything else in my life.
May God Bless You & Yours.

Glad to hear he is better, prayers that the fishing trip goes!I lost my dad 10/14/2014,two days before my birthday. It was tough, luckily I spent a lot of time the last years, but didn’t realize the effects of dementia and wasn’t schooled as should have been.A little research would be helpful, just in case, good days with him hope all goes well!

    Thanks everyone

Dad is recovering nicely, slow but that’s fine.

Physical and Occupational therapists are pleased with the progress.

Looks like I better start figuring out where to take him bluegill/crappie fishing.

Glad to hear things are going well, if you can, get a few fishing trips in ,even if on the bank somewhere. The last time dad and I trew our lines together, I came down from Michigan stayed the night, paid for a day licence, woke up to a cold windy day, didn't eaven get the pontoon out,the fishing was lousy, the memory was priceless.
