......and never got a bite.

A crappie bite, that is. We went up to Mecosta County and fished Chippewa Lake. We wanted to check out the canals to see if the crappie and gills were in yet. They weren't.

Our plan B was to long line jigs and plastics but that never happened due to Jeffs trolling motor copping an attitude and having a mind of it's own.

Plan C was to throw a couple of rapalas out behind the boat and use the 4 stroke to troll for what ever would bite. Jeff had two average bass and a small pike before I scored on another average bass. The next two fish went to Jeff, a 17" smallmouth and a largemouth that almost made master angler, measuring a touch over 19".

It was my turn next, hooking and landing three pike, 2 right at or just shy of 24" and 1 a wiggle under 30". The smaller ones were thrown back but the big girl came home for dinner. She had what looked like an eight inch mud puppy in her stomach when we cleaned her.

Jeff finished the day with another smallish pike.

We didn't find exactly what we were looking for but ,thanks to being prepared, we were able to salvage the day and catch some real quality fish.Name: IMG_20190503_123747054.jpg
