Thread: New project-like I need more to do

I pulled out all the old foam and I'm glad I did. I used a drywall saw to cut it into squares and a flat bar to pop the squares out.It was so water logged that one piece , about 12"x12" and 4" thick, weighed probably 5-10 pounds. With all that weight gone I was able to raise the motor all the way up and raise the tongue, standing the boat on it's rear end. I hosed out the hull and got rid of 30+ years of nasty that had accumulated under the floor. Gave it a good scrubbing inside and out, too. It looks like a different boat. With the hull wide open, I can drop it in the water and check for leaks. Pour foam should be here Monday, got 2 new seats yesterday, new switches next week. I'll get some pictures later today.

It looks good. Can't wait to see it finished.

Jerry, I had an 18'Grumman Canoe years back when my kids were small. It was indestructible. At that time I could load it on my truck by myself. Now? That's another story. Good luck with your project, I know it will be sharp when you get it finished.

I got the two part pour foam delivered yesterday so today I experimented with it. This stuff is pretty cool. I poured the 3 small enclosed areas in the front of the boat in 3 seperate pours. I figured each of the areas was 1 cubic foot, mixed 1 pint part A and 1 pint part B, poured it in and within 2 minutes it had risen, like bread dough, and filled entire space. I poured another 2 cubic feet in the nose under the front casting deck. At 65 pounds per cubic foot, I added about 325 pounds of buoyancy. It got a little high in one spot but after it hardened, maybe 5 minutes, I trimmed it down with a hand saw. Hopefully I can get it in the water tomorrow to check for leaks, then pour the rest of the floor.

Put it in the water this morning. Live wells tested for leaks and are bone dry. I might have a couple of rivets that leak a little, I'll seal them and they should be good to go. You can see the new foam in the nose.
