Great, all we need is Ted to commit and there is no way I am winning anything.

Rich, I love it when their loss is my gain. Last Friday I stopped at a garage sale on my way back from Menards. They had a nice looking Troy Bilt snowblower setting there but I wasn't in the market for one so I didn't even look. The lady made it her mission to point it out to me and tell me how they wanted it out of their garage. The motor runs great, the auger turns like it should, it just doesn't "go". Make me an offer she says. I started it on the first pull and she was right about everything. It even has plug in electric start. She says give me 5.00 and it's yours. I told her it was probably the drive belt but they wanted rid of it.

I ordered the new belt for 8.99 shipped to the house and it's a 15 minute job to change it. They sell the exact same blower at Home Depot for 699.00. Some days I love our throw away mentality, as long as I have room in the barn.

By the way, it's going up for sale in November, probably ask 300.00.

I got my $750 (with tax) tiller last year at Lowes end of year sale for $300. Also got 10% off for military discount. Total was $295 with tax. Also picked up a $275 power post hole digger that starts on first crank for $100. It had been used once. Love good deals. Jerry that was a great one.

Now days a lot of people won't fix thing. I figure it was worth 5.00 even if I used it for parts. When winter gets here it will be worth a lot more than it is now.

    Good deal Jerry!

Best deal (other than my bride) I ever stumbled across was a John Deere farm tractor. I stopped in for a 6 pack of beer at the local country store and Mr. Jones said "Hey you're a John Deere man, I got a tractor for you"! My response was what is it? He said a John Deere 50....well that really didn't pique my interest much cause they are still plentiful even though they are antique. But I did the courteous thing and said sure,I'll take a look!
We walked out to his barn and there it sat under a old tarp, I said how much were you asking?....$500.00 to you, he said. as we got closer I could see it was a wide front end, that alone can sell for a thousand dollars.....so it was already a bargain. How long has it been sitting I asked as I rolled the tarp back for a better look....I had the dealership overhaul it in 92 and it's been there ever since was his reply. gave the belt pulley as a spin with the clutch engaged and out of gear.....it wasn't stuck!!!!

Mr Jones, this is worth more than $500.00! Yep but I know if you buy it, it's going to a good home.

I pulled back the tarp by the drawbar and it still had the factory 3 pt. hitch! Another 800.00 item if I were to salvage it for parts. I said are you sure Mr. Jones all you want is $500.00? Yep was his answer as I pulled out the check book and wrote him a check.

So Chris and I pulled it home, put the battery charger on it and it rolled over....I wonder if it will fire up with gas? Sure did!

I have taken this old barn find all original 1955 John Deere 50 to a couple tractor show, won most original tractor even though the paint is faded so bad you can barely tell it's green and been offered $4500.00 for it. I even had the two cylinder club ask me to bring it to the prestigious "Gathering of the Green" show! I just enjoy firing it up once in a while and let the grandkids drive it or take it to steam shows and belt it up to the threshing machine for a turn.

Yep....second best deal I ever got

I get in mood swings where I look for "trash" that no one wants to fix, cares to fix, or wants to take the time to learn how to fix. Those people are becoming few and far between now days. Most just throw it away and buy a new one.

When I quite drinking I had to find something to do to keep me from going insane.
Let's see: I purchased a jeep at an auction once that no one wanted, put in in my garage, used an angle grinder to remove all the paint and cut the rust, purchased new panels, fixed the motor, fixed the chassis, fixed the drive train, and sold it for 10 times what I paid for it.

I picked up a rototiller on the side of the road (a very old one). People came out and said it wouldn't start you can have it for scrap. I took it home, removed the now falling apart air filter that was clogged with oil, grease, and grass, changed the oil and the spark plug, cleaned the fuel tank and fired it on the first pull. I gave it to a needy family that wanted to garden.

I found the frame of an old snowmobile trailer (from a scrapper) and traded an old farm implement that was on my property (no idea what it was so it wasn't any good). I used recovered deck boards from a job, sanded it down with a wire wheel, pulled the axle, greased it, pained the entire thing, put new spring clamps on it, and sold it to my neighbor for $500 bucks.

My ancient push mower had a bent engine shaft. It was hard to find non mulching mowers. I found someone with one on the side of the road and the deck was shot. He was giving it away. It had a honda engine on it. I swapped engines and used it until I moved. I gave it to the person I sold the house to. Also picked up another lawn mower for free that would diesel on idle. The guy even paid to have it in the shop and they couldn't figure it out. I pulled the carb off from it and changed the diaphram (cost 2 bucks). Fixed the problem.

My buddy had a 4x4 quad that wouldn't start. He said the electric start died years ago and he broke the pull rope. He was too lazy to fix it. The tires were rotted. Dad and I pulled it home, aired up the tires, fixed the bad spots, pulled the recoil, changed the rope and then looked and found that the starter was NOT bad. It was a fuse that had blown. It runs like champ. Probably could get 1200 for it paid 450 for it.

Had a buddy that had an 85cc quad for his kid. Said it wouldn't run. They took it to a mechanic who did 200 dollars worth of carb work and maintenance and still couldn't get it working. I paid him 200 bucks for it.

I took it home, took the petcock valvue off and found that the reserve fuel tube had cracked and put a piece of plastic in to the fuel line. Removed the plastic and fired it on the first crank. Adjusted the idle and my daughter uses it to this day. I will get 600 for it when she outgrows it.

    All good finds.

I was doing a roof job for a regular customer and was saving the aluminum drip edge and roof vents for scrap. When the job was done and we were loading the aluminum, he comes around the house pulling a Craftsman air compressor (5 hp 20 gallon I think) and told me I could have that for scrap, too. He said a valve was bad. I took it home, plugged it in and it ran perfect. When it got up to pressure and shut off, the small valve that bleeds the pressure from the cylinder wouldn't click off after the pressure was released. I made a small adjustment to the tube that comes off the cylinder and it fixed the problem. It had a small oil leak but I tightened the drain plug and fixed that, too.

I get all sorts of stuff from work, and try to find people who can use them, can not even begin to name it all.

That black cube you gave me is awesome. Last trip to Louisiana I got pretty much all my clothes and gear in it. Thanks again.

No problem Jerry. I was happy to get them out of my garage.

I think they are water proof as well, I don't remember. I have a smaller grey one in my truck that I keep emergency boat tools, and a extra winch strap in (Just in case)
