Default Another fine mess from D'arbonne

I was on the water this morning by 7am with the air temp at 45 and the water temp at 57. Launched at Hwy 33, Jakes Landing, and motored north a couple hundred yards, dropping the TM when I hit the channel and 38 fow. I was using my go to set up, a 1/32 oz jig and plastic on the bottom, 1/2 oz egg sinker a foot up and a loop knot a foot above that with a #2 long shank hook baited with a shiner hooked up through the head. First rod was set at 20' down and before I got my second rod baited I hooked up with what would be my big fish of the day, a 13 1/2" 1lb 5oz white crappie.

I worked the channel north into a light wind and the bite was steady but light, I was getting popped but they didn't want to commit, a lot like last week. By 10:00 I had 5 in the box and was scratching my head on what to do. I tried slip bobbers and shiners again and again had no luck. I decided to motor back to my original starting spot and make another pass and it ended up being a good move, I got on a school of active fish and put a few more in the live well. About 1:30 they really turned on and I was able to put some more good fish in the box. They bit good for about an hour then shut off completely. I left the water about 3:30 with 17 good fish, 3 that were 13" and over. The wind was a bit heavier than they called for, topping out at 14mph so boat control was tough at times.

I'm gonna try solo again in the morning, then I'm fishing with my buddy, Melvin , on Wednesday. Heading back to the snow and cold on Thursday. I can't wait.Name: 9875.jpeg

I forgot to mention, it was a shiner bite. Only caught 3 on plastic, the rest on shiners.

Heading out shortly to give it another try.

I'm still fishing plastics on my bottom jig, they just don't want it. I had one day last week when they wanted plastics part of the day and shiners the rest of the day. I've been fishing the same 1/4 mile of channel pretty much exclusively. There are boats on the north end of my run and on the south end of my run but very few fish the center where I am.

If you want to fish D'arbonne this winter I'm leaving my boat down at my sons, you're welcome to use it. He would even pull it up to Farmerville for you.

Much appreciated Jerry. We have our hands full here. Was going to come there for the get together, but it was the same weekend as my Birthday, and we had other plans.
