Default Walleye fishing for 1st timers...summer of 2019...

Hello all...my wife and daughter and I go to southwest MI every year to visit my folks...we enjoy fishing...but we would like to learn how to walleye fish...we can only go in the summer and we are limited to our style of fishing, meaning, there’s a few piers at Lake MI and we have a small row boat with a trolling motor for the more inland lakes...does anyone have any advice/suggestions we could/should try...we really need help without spending a bunch of money on a guide or charter...

Where exactly do you stay in SW Michigan? That will help narrow down where you can try for walleye.

Please provide the area you are referring to. There are a good many of us throughout the State that walleye fish quite a bit.

Fiveeyes is down in SW Michigan, ready2fish (Jim), Skillet007 (Kevin), and OneidaEagle (Aaron) are all in west central Michigan. FishingCouple (Gary and Tonda) are in Central Michigan, and I am in South Central. The majority of us travel the State looking for Walleye. A few of us have dabbled in fishing professionally for them and even have some sponsors.

If you give us an area, rest assured that at least one of us has fished it. We can provide locations, tips, tricks, and tactics. Heck, most of us would offer to throw you in our boat for a day just to show you the ropes.

Although I've fished a ton for them, I always learn different stuff from all these guys. Everyone kind of has a niche that they are very good at.

Spartannation (Jerry) probably has fished that area too and has some secret river tactics he would share!

Although walleye always seems to be hush, hush, rest assured, we all share information so that everyone can catch more fish. Even if it means giving up a honey hole or two.

I know the area but have never walleye fished any inland lakes there. Let me do some digging while waiting for others to chime in.

Would your wife and daughter be opposed to a little side trip while on vacation? We have two world class walleye fisheries in Michigan and many of the people listed above would be more than happy to take you out on a trip to lake huron in Saginaw or lake Erie in Monroe!

No, it would not be a guided/charter trip. It would be one CDC member taking another CDC member and his family out fishing. You get to enjoy some great fishing, hopefully learn something, and experience our Michigan hospitality.

I do it all the time and have met some of my lifelong friends this way. Just keep us posted on when you are coming. If my schedule is free, I'll be more than happy to take you and your family at no charge!

That would be amazing...I will say, we would want to help out with some expenses...we don’t ever expect anything for free...we just didn’t want to pay hundreds of dollars on a guide/charter...I will keep in touch with you...and thank you so much for your kindness...we are coming up around the end of July...thanks again...
