One thing we have on the younger kids, we sure know how to get up early. Well, accept for Erin!
Our trip to Louisiana.
We all had to work Wednesday so it was up at 4:30 am, work till noon then home to pack the truck. Jeff showed up about 5 and we headed to pick Steve up, getting on the road by 5:30. We drove through the night, napping in the truck and rotating drivers, getting to my sons around 10 am.
We unloaded the truck and spent some time visiting before heading up to D'arbonne for the afternoon. Thursday evening produced 9 crappie, biggest 1lb 4oz. Back to my sons at dusk for chili dogs and some shut eye. To bed by 9 and up at 3am for bacon and eggs and a full day of fishing.
Friday Steve teamed up with "D" for a trip to Duck Dynasty before fishing, me and Jeff went decided to fish instead and managed to scratch up 4 with big fish about 1lb 8oz and a good one lost at the boat. We went straight to the Friday get together from the lake and were treated to quite a feast. Gumbo, red beans and rice, boudin balls and links, pee-can pie (sorry Danny, pe-con) and also got to meet a lot of the Lousiana gang. Back to my sons and to bed by 10.
Saturday we slept in, getting up about 4am, again bacon and eggs and some fresh, hot coffee. On the water shortly after daybreak. Jeff and I ran into a fellow at the launch who ended up being Justin Maxwell, Duck Commando. He says I thought you might be the Michigan boys when I saw the deep V boat and MC numbers but was sure when I heard your accent. Saturday was slow fishing for us but the shore lunch at noon, hosted by CRAPPIENATOR was fantastic. After lunch we headed back to my sons to pack the truck and put my boat in his shed, ready for when I go back down in a few weeks. Then up to the state park for another great meal, this one featuring fried crappie, fresh shrimp, alligator more boudin, the best hush puppies I've ever eaten (sorry Don). We took some walleye and it was a bi hit. The prize give away was held after dinner and featured numerous rods and reels, jiggs, plastics, rod holders and local made jams. I took some coffee roasted and donated by Couragous Coffee in Portland with special labels for the Lousiana gang, D'arbonne Dark Roast and Black Bayou Breakfast Blend.
We headed for home after the event, leaving Louisiana around 10pm Michigan time, again drove through the night, and I finally got home, after dropping off Steve and Jeff , I hope I got them at the right houses, at 2pm. I crashed in my chair around 7:30 and didn't move until 5am this morning. I'm sure we'll be feeling this for a day or two but it was worth it to meet some of our southern brothers and I will be doing it again next year. Steve and Jeff will add some pictures.
The older I get the more I realize the therapeutic benefits of fishing

We had a great trip. Got to put names and faces together... Saw friends made at the Michigan gathering and made new...ate amazing food.. Had a lot of laughs... Many at Steve's expense. Got a little fishing in even though the weather didn't cooperate..... Cold and windy with the fish not on the bite.. Jerry managed to coax a few and proceeded to trash talk.. oh well every dog has it's day... The Louisiana gang are a class act and I think Jerry and I got some ideas for the Michigan gathering.. This is probably the longest post I've ever made but I can't put the experience into just a few words.. If you ever get the chance to experience another regions gathering you'll know what I mean.
