    Larry,

Like Jerry said, speed can be all over the place. For me, I akin my speed to drifting. When the wind is too fast, the line hangs back at a shallower angle and it takes more weight and more line out to reach a desired depth.

More than anything, I look at the angle of my line in the water. Most of the time, I stay in the .3 to .6 catagory when I am working a sinker, hook, and minnow combination in less than 15 foot of water. Keep in mind that this is basically "over the side of the boat" trolling. Basically controlling my drift. When I switch over to jigs tipped with either a minnow or soft plastics, my speed does go up a little bit. I do fish with both at the same time but I find that the fish don't like the slow speeds and the jigs whereas they don't like the faster speeds and the hook and minnow. Weird I know but by having both, I cover all the bases!

When long lining, I like somewhere between .6 to 1.0mph but, it isn't something I do regularly. I save that for when the wind is blowing and that is the best I can do. I've found it to be a deadly tactic however during that time.

....and here we spend all this money on electronics to give us accurate readings on speed, and it can just be done by spitting on the water........

There were an awful lot of fish caught before all those fancy electronics were invented. I'm just as technical with the distance back that I run my jigs when long lining, as far as I can cast then one pull with my 12' Bn'M rod. Figure that gets me down about 8-10 feet. This can change if I'm throwing into or against the wind.

Default Catching Crappie at Six Lakes

Mrs OE, Thanks you all again.

It was some beer battered Crappie & some Chicken & Herb Rice she concocted for dinner tonight.

I did try some but am waiting for my Salmon.

I took the Blackened Seasoning, seasoned the Salmon, then deep fried it, then another light coat of seasoning.

Not sure how it’s going to taste, as I have never tried it, but will find out.
