As I am nearing the end of my time in your beautiful state, I want to thank everyone for all of the suggested activities and must see places. We have actually followed the most of them, and have not been disappointed! A special thank you to Wicklundrh for the detailed fishing suggestions! We went yesterday, and found enough of these spots to catch several trout. It is an absolutely beautiful river, and we got to experience Michigan in a very unique way! Gravel roads, farm land, cool and clean river, and a perfect sunset! I will be leaving with plans to return!Name: IMG_1035.jpg

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Every state has their own natural features to be proud of and you are lucky enough to have been right in the middle of some of ours. Just don't tell all the southerners that Michigan isn't like going to Alaska or they'll all want to come north.

Sounds like you had a great time Eric.......(First time visitor!)
We are blessed to live in a state that has something every season.....except for the cold in Feb. Only thing that’s good for is ice fishing

    Come back again!

Long Lake has a healthy walleye population. I've caught them there drifting with crawler harnesses.

Remember the best place to jet ski is where all the fishermen are.

Ah yes, the infamous Michigan Gravel roads. Go a little further and they turn in to two tracks!
My recipe for purchasing a new vehicle. Buy truck, fill with gas, drive 60mph down a gravel road until it hits a two track (preferably one with the trees touching the sides). Drive new truck down two track scratching both sides like nails on a chalk board. Get to end, turn around, and go back. You have now successfuly broken in a new truck! No longer a need to worry about washing it, cleaning it, or waxing it.

I'm glad you were able to find a few spots and catch some fish. That stream can be dynamite when the weather is hot. In my previous life, I would head down around 6pm, stand with my feet in the water to cool down, catch fish, and keep my beer cold in the creeks that dumped in to the river. Start a fire and eat right there on the bank. Of course, back then I would usually wake up somewhere in the vacinity of my truck around 6am and wonder where I was, how I passed out, or how I got there. As I said, my previous life.

Michigan is unique. Some guys find a spot to fish and they do it their whole lives. Others of us seem like we have been to every lake, river, stream, and pond in Michigan. Although Minn is the land of 10 thousand lakes, Michigan actually has more!!!

Next time you make plans to visit, I suggest Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, and Mackinaw Island. You need to sample the fudge, get some smoked white fish, try a pastie (I hate them by the way), and see the sites. You think lower Michigan is cool, try the UP. It is like a whole different world!

Wish I could have fished with you. After posting that information, I suddently had an itch to get out and fish in some locations I have not been to in years. Good to know the fish are still there. Brought back some good memories. I was a lucky kid growing up. While everyone else was trying to chase girls, play sports, and learn video games, I had lakes, rivers, streams and thousands of acres of land to explore. I wore out my share of bikes!
