Default Dang it was hot, but we caught some fish

I picked Jeff up just before 6am and we headed down to Middle Lake (Barry County). We were the first boat on the water and decided to do a little long lining to start the day. Our first pass produced one decent crappie and one that got away. Second pass scored one more plus a couple of hits. Third pass got us our third and final crappie of the day. The crappie bite died out as the sun got higher so we switched to bluegills.

Middle Lake has extreme drop offs so anchoring is a challenge. We dropped anchor in the weedy shallows and fished our red worms 9' down just out from the drop. This worked well and, with some sorting, we started putting some decent fish in the box. We hit several different areas and all produced some fish. We pulled out early afternoon when the sun got too hot and the pleasure boaters too irritating. Final tally was 18 bluegills 7 1/2" and up and 3 crappie in the 10"-11" range. Only one picture to share, Jeffs getting camera shy.Name: 7048.jpeg

You're a better man than me. Too hot and too many pleasure boats on the water. I hate being tied to the AC by 7am.

Nice pic, great report. Thanks for sharing. I think it's just gonna get hotter! doh

I checked FL compared to IL/MI, we're supposed to be about 20 degrees cooler down here than you northerners today! double doh

    So.....you found the "hot"bite.....

You can blame the heat on me I guess, it must have followed me back from Florida.

A tip of the cap to you guys for getting out, I'm like Rich.....tethered to the AC.

Good catch under the heat lamp. Lake looks so pristine.

Looks like a good beard trim. At least y'all caught enough to feed Wilber. Heat index running around 110 today down here. Been that way a few days.
