    Default Indiana boy up visiting.

So was up in yalls great state this weekend bc my wife's family lives around jackson and she has a new niece. So her father, a friend of ours and I go out Saturday. Was hot and calling for rain but went anyhow. See I've never caught a pike before despite several trips while there. So we go outside a little town I believe was called waterloo to a public access site. We unload the kayaks and our gear and proceed to walk (no exaggeration) at least 3/4 of a mile before any signs of water. After this daunting hike we launch. Finally. Within minutes our mutual friend has one in the boat. Then my father-in-law, and finally my first pike ever.

    Not a giant but it's a fish.
We get into some crappie and after the 2nd or 3rd one we decide we should keep them and eat them, being that I've never caught pike ive never tried it. So it made sense to keep them crappie too. Our first keeper pike was 31 inches.

We put him on the metal stringer along with our crappie. Only to find out about 30 mins later when we had another crappie to clip on, that he had broken the stringer at the swivel and we lost our creel.
The 3 of us fished for about 3 hrs before the lighting started and moved us off the water. To yet again, trudge with our kayaks this hike, this time in the pouring rain. Which still couldn't dampen our spirits. All in all we landed 104 pike, 8 crappie, 2 dog fish, and 1 rock bass. 115 fish in 3 hrs. What an awesome trip. I caught 2 species I had never caught before pike and a dog fish. Was definitely an unforgettable experience

Nice! Glad you did so well on unfamiliar water. Looked like a great day despite the hike.

Thanks. I had a blast and was fortunate to have the guys that took me. I just took their advice being locals and it paid off greatly.

Great job. Being that I live in this area and fish all the waters around it, I was pretty sure I knew the lake the minute I saw the first picture. Then, when you talked about the walk in, it gave me a better indication.

Markla Lake is where I think you were at! I've made that walk in the winter time. The parking lot is right by the Waterloo museum.

That trail about half way back is loaded with coyote in the winter time.

Winner winner pike dinner! Lol. I'd forgotten the name of the lake, I had to ask father-in-law
