    Default Assessing the damage

Got out in the barn early this morning to see how bad the repairs is going to hurt. Looks like the hub is shot, the spindle is shot and I need a new fender. The tire is ruined but, on the positive side, the rim is good. I'm headed back out and am going to remove the axle and take it to my brothers, who it a machinist and industrial welder, to see if he can point me in the right direction. Once he sees it I'll decide whether to try and get a new spindle welded on or look into a new axle.

    All input is welcome.

Man, this is gonna be some expensive walleye.

In the store it’s roughly $21.00 a pound.

    So you might break even.

been there before its always a matter of time and someone will go through this. sorry about your miss fortune

I ended up buying a new axle with hubs and found it less of a hassle and at that time cheaper, if you go that route make sure its not metric components

I feel like a white bass swimming upstream and constantly running into snags. TSC has a limited selection of trailer repair parts and not the spindle I need (if I can find one Gross Machine Shop will weld it on for me), Family Farm and Home the same story, O'Reilleys Auto has nothing and Auto Zone has nothing. I've tried Northern Tool on line and can"t figure out what I need. I don't know which way to turn. A trailer supply? Or should I find a place in Lansing/ Grand Rapids that repairs axles and have them figure it out?

Not quite in panic mode yet but the darkness is closing in.

Jimmy, where did you get your axle?

Hey Jerry I took mine to Grandville trailer, I thought I had to replace my axel but after they cleaned it all up it was good, two new hubs and a trip to grapewood frame and axel for an alignment All has been well since then
