Jeff and I are having a lot of fun down here. After seeing forcasts of rain all week, we didn't think we would get much time in the boat but, luckily, the rain is holding off and we're able to get some fishing.
Monday was a beautiful day so we decided to head an hour east down I-20 to Delhi, La and fish Poverty Point Lake. We fished the deep water channels for a while without a bite before moving shallow thinking they might be on the bank. After catching a couple of catfish, Jeff finally hooked up with a nich 13 1/2" crappie and followed it up with a 15 1/2" slab. We thought it was game on but those ended up as the only crappie we caught that day. We did, however, get into a school of big white bass that kept us entertained for a while. Man, those dudes can fight! We caught and released a couple dozen in the 18" range along with some goo and yellow bass.
Tuesday we headed back to Caney Lake with a forecast of storms in the afternoon. We fished all the usual areas without a bite before going exploring. We up in a finger of the lake that had numerous protected coves and switched to red worms as bait and started catching a few bluegills and red ears. Jeff also caught a nice 17" bass.
The older I get the more I realize the therapeutic benefits of fishing
